Chasing The Aurora - A Successful Night!
We finally caught a break! Last night my friends and I drove north near the small town of Talkeetna. The forecast for the aurora started out strong as always but began to dwindle as we approached our shooting spot. Nevertheless, we were able to capture a band and some faint columns dancing over a side road we discovered. Winding through the trees we passed a few moose eating the newly revealed grass. I was so happy we were able to find them because last night was my friends last day in Alaska and she had never seen them. A great way to send her off.
Unfortunately aurora season is coming to a close because of the increase in daylight we are receiving. Definitely a bittersweet moment. We only have a few more weeks until the lights won't be able to be seen until about September.
Due to the faint nature of the aurora last night we decided to get a little creative and try some light painting. We used a small headlamp to creates trails of light during the long exposures. The temperature was extremely comfortable at 12 degrees Fahrenheit and a half moon lit our way. I love shooting with a partial moon because it lights up the foreground and gives more context than a black silhouette. It was a long but beautiful night under the arctic sky.

beautiful !!
That's so beautiful and stunning. It almost looks fake. I'm not sure how you get so many great pictures but you must be doing this for a long time. As a matter of fact how long exactly have you been doing this? It seems like you have a lot of fun while you're doing it. I think that matters in life. Finding something that you love and enjoy and taking time to do it. All of my love to you and all of yours.
I started taking photography seriously in the middle of 2016 so almost two years. That's definitely one of the most important things you can do in life, finding your passion. Thank you for your support :)
You're welcome sir.
Thanks for this. I REALLY want to visit Alaska and have for a while... but until then this will suffice! Good to know about the season of the borealis though. Because there are other things I'd like to see there but that's def on the list. Is the predominant color normally green? Also i love how these came out!
Hopefully you get a chance to visit soon! Yes the color is usually green but it can become red, pink, and blue depending on what gasses are in the atmosphere when it passes through. 95% of the time though you will see green.
I love that green! You're a lucky guy! :)
These Are really nice impressive Color balance, Contrast is so nice to
Thank you! I have a bad habit of shifting things too blue for the lights so I'm trying a new process.

Wow. Beautiful photos! I like how you were able to capture it with the right settings. (As an amateur photographer it's quite hard for me to find the perfect settings of the camera especially at night). The place seems magical, yet eerie.. I wish I could visit that place.
very nice I like all of your stuff because your content type is very educational
Really beautiful photos you have here ! :)
How is it in real life (not in pictures) ? I heard it is a little different, maybe less green ?
Great photos ☺️
