Monument of Glory
The main symbol of Samara, and the highest landmark in the city - a monument to aircraft builders - the official name of the Monument of Glory. In the people - "Panikovsky with a goose", "not drinking", "a man with wings." The total height of the monument is 53 meters - 40 meters main pedestal, 13 meters - a figure of a man with his hands up, in which he holds two large inclined planes, which symbolize the wings of the aircraft.
The monument was opened in 1971. As they say, in the original version - the wings should have been larger. But after calculations and checks of the model, it was decided to reduce them, so that the monument would become more wind-resistant.
