My Actifit Report Card: September 7 2019

in #actifit7 years ago

A greeting friends of @actifit, today was quite active since early I went out for a walk, to promote my physical activity and mental health. The hustle and bustle is constant at the University. Today I am going to share with you a very interesting reflection that I read in a group called El toque de Cuba in Telegram. It is about the impact of the nationalizations after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. That's how I say goodbye. I thank you for your support and a big hug:
"My grandfather was a guy I didn't know, but he is the one I admire most in my family, behind my father, of course. The story of strangulation to the private sector before '59 is that, I tell. There were worrying indices of poverty and I won't discuss that with anyone, but the story that there were no possibilities to progress unless you were from a wealthy family is a story. My grandfather came to Cuba with 16 years as a stowaway on a boat from Barcelona (yes, I'm a barcelonist because of my blood, not because of Messi), and his first job here was as a boat mechanic's assistant. He worked like an animal, paid for his studies, renounced his Spanish citizenship to obtain the Cuban citizenship because his aspirations were to work in a government post and not to own a winery (which was not bad, of course). My grandfather became Chief Immigration Inspectors of the Republic, and was later promoted to Chief General Immigration of the Republic. He took his place in social columns of the time. I have newspaper clippings where my father comes out as a child in his first communion. And I ask myself, what the fuck was my grandfather important for the first communion of the son of the "Excellency Mr. Fulano..." to be news? The details about the summits he reached don't matter, what I try to show is that he did it with his own effort, surpassing himself, advancing with his own merit, a stranger to a wealthy family, far from being born in a cradle of gold. When the Revolution triumphs, they came and threw it out, without an explanation, without a previous investigation, nothing, zero, out. His country house in Loma de Tierra, Alberro, was taken away. The beautiful house in Fontanar where my old man was born and raised, taken away. His two cars, taken away. He only kept Lawton's house, October 10, where he died in 1973 of a stroke... although the old man always says he died of sadness. When the fever of nationalization and the "quitadera" came, a lot of injustice was done, too much. And for people like my grandfather, the only compensation they received was that of going to heaven eventually. This is my family's experience. I know there are millions like that.
