Daily poetry: Us (with photo)
As you know by now, Kahlil Gibran has had a major impact on the way I write.
Here is another piece inspired by this amazing artist.
US
I wanted us to become
A dream of a dream inside a dream.
But, like the night, it has to end.
We have to eventually open our eyes.
Eventually, we have to count the seconds,
The minutes, the hours, until
The dream of a dream inside a dream
Talks to our hearts and lets us be.
I wanted us to be true to love's vows.
But the dream of a dream inside a dream
Kept us unconscious of the tides.
The world changed and our songs faded,
Until our voices turned into atoms of emptiness.
But isn’t emptiness another form of abundance?
When we grope for the light, don’t we touch the wind?
Even when absence calls our names, don’t we feel
Some connection to the invisible?
The dream of a dream inside a dream...
That’s all we are, until we realize
That endings are just beginnings,
That all the detours we take lead to the right path.
The dream of a dream inside a dream
Is I and We and They
And all these things that we fashion in our minds.
Because mind is spirit, and spirit is soul.
And soul is dream...
