Sea birds are birds that have adapted to the marine environment. Although seabirds vary greatly in lifestyle, behavior and physiology, they often exhibit striking convergent evolution, since environmental problems and the same food fields have resulted in similar adaptations. The seabirds first evolved in the Cretaceous period, and modern seabird families emerged during the Paleogenic period.

In general, seabirds live longer, slower breed, and have fewer children than other birds. Most species make nests in their colonies. Some colonies exist that only consist of dozens of birds, but there are also up to millions of birds. Many species do annual migration.
