Inaction is a Choice

On my last post, @suprepachyderm left a comment that really got me thinking.

In addition to applying his comment to Steemit, what about applying it to everything? The part of his comment in particular that I’m really internalizing and nodding my head to is this:
I understand the perceived unfairness, especially when some mediocre content gets a ridiculously high payout. It's frustrating. The more I look into it, the more I see why my inability to pull off the very same thing is largely because of inaction on my part.
...
Thank you, @suprepachyderm for saying that. I can’t say I’ve never previously realized for myself what you said, but you sent me a much needed reminder. You are awesome.
I’m incredibly ashamed to say this, but inaction on my part seems to be a general recurring theme in my life. And believe me, inaction is always a choice. It’s been my choice. Shame on me. :(
I believe it all comes down to this:
Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice.
With that said, let’s consider the following: What if there is no such thing as fairness – or unfairness? Perhaps they only exist in our heads and serve as a hindrance more than anything else. Our work ethic, passion, stamina, enthusiasm, etc (you know, all the positive attributes we need to achieve goals) are our responsibility to create from within. It’s also our responsibility to seek the outside resources necessary to give ourselves the tools to create from within. No one knows it all, but we can always do our best to improve; we can always find a way to shape and re-shape our lives countless times. And it’s never too late to start.
I alone have to formulate my own unique flavor of these attributes with my own hands. I am responsible for getting out there and doing my best each day, and that includes providing my own motivation. And that goes for you, too.
Now back to Steemit: If new people (myself included) want to do well on Steemit, we need to take action. Whatever it takes to get yourself educated, do it -- it's up to you. These days it’s harder than ever to do well on here because there is so much noise that drowns us out. This action we need to take might include things like posting more thoughtful content and posting more often, making the rounds on posts we find interesting and writing thoughtful comments, getting involved in Discord and Steemit chat, getting educated on how the Steemit platform works (read the white paper!!!), and getting educated about cryptocurrencies.
I believe cryptocurrency education and PARTICIPATION {<--action words} are super important because the writing is already on the wall; cryptos are the future of our society. Learn or get left behind. There has already been a lot of money made trading cryptocurrencies, but the good news is that there is still a ton more money to be made, and you can be a part of it. Really, it's not too late. Again, it's up to you to seek out who or what will help you get educated and have the confidence to get on board with this societal change.
As far as Steemit as a platform is concerned, I think the most important thing is having faith in the good of our community and knowing we as a unified group have the power to change the things we don’t see as beneficial (such as spam or reward pool raping bots, for example). Just the mere fact of knowing that we have this power results in taking action. Maybe not quick action, but action nonetheless.
Sitting back and complaining is inaction – a choice that helps no one. Let’s be the change we want to see on Steemit. If we don’t like spam, then post things that are so amazing that no one will even notice the spam. Flag the spammy comments and mute the user, and voila they go away. If everyone does that, the spammers will have no reason to be here.
I’m taking action. Are you?

YESS! great post! I'm following both of @cali-girl and @suprepachyderm because I've fallen into that trap. I was writing/recording a song a week, and have been majorly inactive with music in the last month and posting here. Thank you both of you.
It's ok...you fell off the wagon; now get back on. :)
This is a great quote I heard that's on the front of my crypto investment Excel sheet. Can't tell you how much money not trusting that has cost me...
"INDECISION IS THE THIEF OF OPPORTUNITY." - Jim Rohn
I'm going to have to steal that one. :)
I read your post and I be like
lol, I don't even know what to say. I'm glad you were able to draw inspiration from my comment. I will gift you a randowhale for the kind words.
That's very nice of you! Thank you so much. :)
we participate in the ecosystem because we want to!
Soon everyone will wish they were participating in the Steemit ecosystem. :)
... or not?
Doesn't matter, actually. Just don't forget to enjoy the whole way to your aim.
