Beer Tasting - Pilsener ('Staročeško Svijetlo' by Daruvar Brewery)

An amazing pizza advertisement and a pretty bad beer today! I saw Doomsday brew and got super excited! Turns out that they just used a different label for a local macro pilsener. Jokers!

The new Doomsday pizza place seems amazing. They make deep dish variety as well as regulars. What is really interesting is that they use soy and seitan (wheat gluten) instead of meat! So vegan and vegetarian friendly. They really emphasize that side of the story so it will be either sink or swim for them. Only time can tell! As an orthodox vegetarian I’ll give them thumbs up and I hope to visit them soon!

But what about the beer? They seem to have struck a deal with Daruvar Brewery to re-label some of their macro pilsner which is… meh. OK if you are cool with watered down macro stuff, but that is not why you are reading this, ain’t it? Props to the pizza place for the idea, though!

So, the beer in question is aliased. What’s that? RateBeer gives the following definition:

The brewer markets this same or near-same product by more than one names. This can be the result of a brewer distributing this beer under different names in different countries, or the brewer simply changing the name, but not the recipe at different points in time.

Appearance	Good rebranding. Obvious eye catcher. So much that I was disappointed when I realised what it was. Plain Staročeško Light undercover. I wasn’t provided a glass.
Aroma	Malty and quite grapey.
Taste	Heavy malts, then ash.
Palate	Medium carbonation. Gassy. Surprisingly unrefreshing for what I’d expect from a macro pilsener. Flabby. Medium bodied in a bad way. Leaves artificial bitterness in the aftertaste.

Overall	Buy it. Take a photo holding it. Tell your friends not to repeat the same mistake. Have a pizza instead.

Price: Free. A gift since the chef sensed an advertisement opportunity.
