Lets Talk - What do you expect in a budget hotel
I am sure a lot of us here are travelers and prefer budget hotels on the move. I run one such property in North India and though things have been smooth so far, I wanted your opinion as well.
What do you look for in a budget hotel
Is it the basic things like cleanliness and warmth from the staff or deeper stuff like power back-up, high speed wifi etc?
In off-season, when the prices are really low, we do try to cut corners by not offering the tea maker and accessories. Likewise, newspaper is available at the reception area. But in season, when we charge more, all facilities are given. Including free mineral water if the tariff we charge is HIGH.
So, what are some of the most essential things you look for in a hotel that costs less. May be I could pick-up a few things from you guys here!
Here are some of my others posts
cleanliness is the priority along with security. A soothing ambience helps to evade any fears of shadiness. A complimentary tea is must. The staff should be poilte and humble so that one can actually not rethink.
Yes, we are proud to say that sense of security is always there thanks to a local family staying on 2nd floor and my team there. Plus most of our guests are families / couples so that also helps. Soothing ambience is something we are trying for - to get it right. Complimentary tea will be there for festive season :-D that is 23 dec to 3rd Jan :P
Thanks for the tips :)
For me cleanliness and food quality (menu can be small) matters most. Then comes the friendly/caring staff. Other amenities like Wifi, tea-maker, etc can be charged as an extra.
Like the word 'extra' - can do this in low season when rates are low :-D
Clean rooms and a view to sit and sip the budhe baba. While on travel guess I become less choosy and if the room's are clean I look for good staff. A family like environment can compensate small small issues. Last campsite we stayed in Narkanda had very nil to basic facilities but the host was quite good and then next day we were in kitchen preparing our breakfast.
View - a bit hard as we are bang in town. Less, family touch / warmth by staff is really important. As for kitchen, not allowing the guests to use it as of now. But can think about it. Good point
