Cruisin' along the tides
What's that? A quiet week? No way...
Time for another update and a refresh of sorts! We had a pretty quiet week within the server and there weren't as many updates as we've had in the past few weeks, but we did manage to get our weekly checklist set up and ready to go. We have also downsized some of the channels to make them more digestible and we've introduced a channel specifically for finding out how to invite others. Plus, I'll let you know what's going on with the token.
This is going to be a relatively brief post in comparison to the others, so hopefully, I won't take up too much of your time today!
Did someone say bonus rewards?
Our #weekly-checklist channel is now open for all members to visit! The introduction of the checklist is for any member who wants to earn bonus tokens each week on top of the tokens they're currently receiving for their participation in the features. We have different bonuses for each role so that the more engaging members receive a better stake for their involvement.
Here is the table describing the amounts:
As you can see, we have a minimum guideline for the features available at your role. This is required to receive the bonus reward but once you reach the minimum, you can use any other methods to increase your token count for that week.
The timeframe for the checklist will run inline with our payout date, which is Wednesday, and you don't need to worry about telling us you're participating in the checklist... our system is set up so that you will receive tokens for any level of engagement, if you reach the target we will know and your bonus will be added.
Trim away the fat
We've been taking on board feedback and making sure that we trim back some of the channels so that it is even easier for any new members to get started. We had a big downsize last week to make the server more appealing to our members and we have continued to reduce the fluff in a couple of our channels this week for maximum clarity.
What are the roles?
The big one was our #fish-of-the-sea channel. Last month, I had written out this channel as if it was some kind of assignment and it ended up being a huge block of text. This isn't attractive to the average user and ain't nobody got time for dat.
Get moving!
As well as the #fish-of-the-sea channel, we also reduced down the #quick-start channel. We're aware that people don't have the time to read an awful lot when we are already reading a lot as it is, this being through our following or from our curation efforts. The #quick-start channel is now 10 bullet points to give you the goods in rapid time.
Do you know anyone who'd appreciate BuddyUP?
A few members over the past fortnight have asked about inviting people they know to the server. This is great but we try to invite people in a particular way. As we've stated before, we don't leave any external site arrows in our comments from BuddyUP. This is an attempt to disassociate ourselves from any potential phishing links, external malicious sites and so on and so forth.
We've set up a channel in the server called #invite-friends which explains this all a bit clearer for anybody who wants to invite anybody over to the server. If you invite somebody over, drop me a message and I'll rank them up to Tetra for a grand total of 0 SBD. If you're inviting someone over, they're bound to be a great member of the community.
Token time
As most of you already know, we have our own token for the BuddyUP community. It's rewarded for engagement with others in the server and also for your involvement with the various feature. Some of you are well aware of the end goal for our token but some of you may still be curious as to why you want to grab hold of some BUDDYUP.
First of all, this token will give you a stronger voice in the future of BuddyUP. We reward people for their engagement because those who are actively involved are the type of people we want to see in our future.
Secondly, this first token is just the beginning. I have no doubts that many other communities will create their own tokens over time, probably when it comes to the SMT stage, so we want to figure this all out with our BitShares token right now. We will eventually release an SMT for BuddyUP down the line which we will be planning to use as a reward for engagement and involvement, as well as another utility which will be presented in the near future.
So why do I need to earn tokens now?
The amount of BUDDYUP (Our BitShares token) you hold when our SMT is released, determines the amount of SMT you will receive. Think of it as a trade up.
Two important points to note... our BitShares token is whitelist only. Our SMT will be public.
This may all be very confusing and you might be sitting there with your head in your hands without a clue, so if you want to know more about this, you can contact me on Discord and we can discuss it further. If you are wanting to wait for future posts about the token, you can expect to see these in the next few weeks.
Wrap this up
We will be hosting our Drop in the Ocean show tomorrow at 20:00 UTC which is always an exciting one to stop by too! If you want to find out some more information about our show, you can find the details towards the end of this post. We're looking forward to seeing you there!
Thanks for keeping up to date! If you're new, you can find our discord server here in our SafeLink post. Have you checked out our posts in night mode? And finally....
Thanks @calumam for the update, I don't have bitshare account yet, how can I create one?
No problem @youngboss, we have one every Sunday, if you want to check out some more you can scroll back through our blog and see what else we've been up too.
If you head over to the channel called #start-earning in the server you'll find all the information you need there bud :)
OK @calumam, thanks a lot.
this is rather interesting and some of the people I am trying to engage with at the moment might be interested in this idea. Maybe you could come over and introduce your self and this idea on my post?
I am running an experiment here on steemit with the aim of improving retention and the steemit experience and like I said, some of the people engaging on this post might be interested.

I've dropped by, I love the initiative and what you are aiming to do. You can't beat data!
Great idea, @paulag! The core intention of @calumam and other leading @BuddyUp lights is to improve retention and the quality of experience for newbs on Steemit.
And my apologies. I opened up your post in new browser tabs whenever I came across it.... at least 2-3 times in past days... but have not yet reached it. Will hop over after checking in on BuddyUp meeting.
thanks for the reply @angelacs, looks like we are very much aligned in our goals. its amazing how many people are really pulling together on steemit.
You're very Welcome, @paulag.
YES!!! ;)
I keep giving Thanks, thinking and saying that Steemit is leading the way to what I've been envisioning for ages... in my jargon, 'heaven on Earth living'.
Steemit, to me, is a mini Earth with cutting edge leaders and peeps who are committed to living quality, free and happy lives. Just what all human beings want, right, @paulag?
We have in our hands a platform that can massively help to transform consciousness then reality all over our planet.
So lovely to 'meet' you. ;)
Congratulations @buddyup! You have completed some achievement on Steemit and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :

STOPHello @calumam!
Thank you so much for this @BuddyUp update. I am just about to come to the meeting but I fear I may have mixed up the UTC time again. ;(
That looks soooo clear, simple and easy to go through fully once, then again to make sure everything sinks in. Thanks so much for coordinating greater simplicity and clarity for all our new members.
Don't you worry, that may have been my bad with the timings again! Next week it will be starting 2 hours prior to now. So it's 20:00 GMT time :)
I'm glad you like the simpler layouts. As long as they're helping, I'm a happy chappy!
Thanks for dropping by again @angelacs :)
Ok. Well I'll check by your post as usual then set my timer, @calumam. ;)
Everything looked good in there when I went in. Scrubbed, dusted, polished and glowing. ;)
I'd just love a little private space to invite our BuddyUp mentees so I don't keep going to the wrong server when trying to catch up. But that's me getting lost in discord as usual. ;)
