CELEBRATIONS

Nope. This is not another brandy post. Well not exactly. But if you would like to celebrate with me, then by all means; pour yourself a brandy! Make that a double. If you'd like to know why, then perhaps begin with my last post (for those who missed out on Brandy Rain)

The best time of year on a homestead is when the babies are born. My personal favourites, naturally, are my precious goatie babies. Our Baby Rain and mama Alaska have joined the flock out in the field. After the blessing of rain the sun is again baking the earth. Rain had a narrow escape from our frolicking teenage calves earlier. They stampeded right over her sunny sleeping spot. I charged to her rescue fearing the worst. Miraculously those heavy beasts had missed her.The pregnant goatie girls have been very gentle with the baby, although Lily (who is due to kid any day) would quite happily adopt the new kid, if Alaska agreed to it!

New additions in the last 24 hours are surprise lambs and 4 pretty calves. The calves will be bottle fed on their pink milkshake (more on that later). The pretty speckled girl will probably be called Pavarotti as she loves to exercise her vocal cords. Our flock of sheep lambed early in winter so twins were totally unexpected but are strong and healthy.

Because a single kid has more milk than she knows what to do with I'll begin milking Alaska tonight. I'm quite excited as she is a first time mama. I also have a special purpose for this amazing liquid gold. While I helped Baby Rain to latch after her wobby beginning I realized that Alaska like her own mama Milka will be wonderful milker. Some girls take to milking naturally. Others get quite hysterical, hopping and bleating in a rather ridiculous manner. Alaska is very calm and quite accepting of my ministrations. Tomorrow I'll be making goats milk shampoo bars with her wonderful milk. For today Baby Rain can guzzle away.

Awwww look at that cute little cow! Cuddles time! :D

Plenty cuddly babies!

I like the brandy idea! A doble one for you and Baby Rain. I look forward to seeing him when he's a teenager.

My husband had the double. Baby Rain had a baby goat tot. I'm breastfeeding so I was just pouring out everyone elses drinks!

It sounds right to me. Thank you!

A warm welcome to the new tenants of your homestead :)
You sound pretty busy!

Not as busy as we will get once all the kids are here and I'm milking every day! But I love it @fotostef

Wow ! They are beautiful. I’ve never seen a real life herd before so I can only imagine it.

Thank you @ireenchew. They are special. I love my goats

Wow, super additive homesteading!

Quick! Put a tarp over the ground so the water doesn't evapoate! Lol

Good idea! But you are a couple days late

Beautiful! It must be your springtime, then? I’m up here in Washington state, USA, and we’re heading into autumn right now. All our calves are almost ready to be weaned and sold. I love springtime. :) New livestock babies are so adorable!

Yes, spring in South Africa. I love autumn in the USA! I lived there a long time ago and it was my favourite time. The colours of fall are beautiful

Stunning my sister .. post once a day eh ... x xx

Are you asking me or telling me? I can't do it! Making an effort to post two or three times a week. I'm already working until 1 or 2 every morning - and NO I don't have the same inclinations as my night owl brother. I still wake up at the crack of dawn....yawn.....

Telling. What you gonna do about it ? ;p x

awwww Baby Rain!! I just want to squish her!! xxx

How do you make goat milk shampoo? or will that be a post?

She really is adorable Lynn. Just wait until they are all here! You won't know where to begin squishing. The goats milk shampoo bar is a similar style to making soap actually. I will be doing a post. I was thinking of in the next week, probably as my next Essentials of Essential Oils post. I use rosemary and peppermint essential oils in the shampoo bars so it will be under one of those ingredients

haha! howdy there buckaroo! great, great photos as always and very interesting and wonderful post, "goats milk shampoo bars" ..didn't know you could make such a thing. any rain in the forecast?

No more rain expected @janton. Glad you enjoy the photos. The shampoo bars are amazing for washing hair. Even the men think so. My husband is my biggest fan.....well he's my GOATS biggest fan. We couldn't do it without them

howdy back buckaroo! always so darn good to hear from you..so the way you use those shampoo bars is to what?....rub the bar on your scalp? I've never heard of shampoo bars.

Also did you see crypto and coffee's article about the Chinese connection in regards to the farmers land grabs there? startling.

You use the shampoo bars like you would the regular shampoo but obviously make a wet lather in your hands. Of course you can probably rub the bar on your wet scalp as well. Will have a peep at his post. I'm having time out with steemit the last couple weeks. Too much happening in real life for me to spend too much time here. Thanks for the headsup

yes two articles but I think I saw you commenting on both of them, I miss you posting regularly but also want you to get everything done on the homestead that you need to do, stay safe out there!
