Ever-bearing strawberries

in #gardening7 years ago

With a myriad of things going on in the gardens, it was nice to take a break this evening and pick our first batch of fresh strawberries.
Because our plants are ever-bearing, they continue to bear fruit all season long. Last year we picked our last berries in November.
Sure wish you could have one......

Yummy. Everbearing is the way to go.
Here in the desert and at high altitude we grow under white polycarbonate which diffuses the light and the berries do great. Out in the sun they fail to produce many and the berries are also small.

Glad to hear that you can at least grow them!

Yeah, the climate here is challenging, We've worked out some solutions over the years, but the tropics are looking better and better every winter.

I hear you, but.....we spent 10 years in the tropics and probably never will again. And I love the heat! Gardening Seems to do much better with seasons apart from a few select exceptions; i.e. We can no longer grow bananas or papaya

Wow 10 years. I'd like to hear the pros and cons from your viewpoint.
My wife and I went to Costa Rica and Panama. Panama was our favorite, especially Boquete in the mountains. Amazing place.

We spent 5 years in Hawaii and 5 years in Florida.....we'll talk!!!

Yeah, let's talk story sometime soon.
I got your file on dropbox but it won't open. Internet at home is bad and at times worse. I'll try again when I go to town later.
I'm anxious to interact musically, with you soon, too.

No worries brother, patience I have!!!

Nice strawberries.
I picked 9kg of strawberries 2 weeks ago. Delicious. The most went into the freezer. I will use them for ice cream and marmalade.

That's a nice batch of strawberries. Ice cream and marmalade sound great!

strawberries are love...
a big thumbs up for strawberries :D

I'll agree with that!

Those look super sweet :x

They're delicious, thanks.

That about sums it up!

haha i like ur articles, be my steemit friend. follow me back :) <3

We are thinking of putting in strawberries but I remember from a long ago garden that they were very difficult to weed. How do you manage that?

We keep them in a cold frame and they stay mostly covered with straw. Almost zero weeding. Because they are the everbearing variety, they spread quickly making weed growth difficult.

oh, that is a good idea. and such a reward!

Those look really good

You'll have to just take my word for it.......they are!
