Selfies And Government ID For Airdrops? GTFOH!!!

I'm seeing more and more of these aidrops utilizing advanced KYC mechanisms to supposedly make sure that people aren't collecting the data twice. Actually even utilizing facial recognition software just to distribute $25 worth of crypto. It is actually a huge threat to our data. I know it is bad enough that Kraken, Coinbase, Bittrex, and other exchanges require all this information about us but it is getting worse with just random crypto projects wanting out data as well. When they get hacked I guess people will have all their identification out there.

This ridiculousness was taking place on Blockchain.com for the Stellar Lumen airdrop and also for the airdrop for Energi.

I feel like as time goes on there could be a situation where there are no exchanges that don't try to collect all the data and then these airdrops will be farming for our identification data so when they get hacked then we will be fresh meat for a pack of savage hackers.

Do you guys think random crypto projects need your Passports, IDs, Selfies....etc? Or do they just need this?

How do you stay motivated through this slump? You're even more of a diehard than I ever was.

It is real hard to be honest. Things aren't going well on the blogging platforms overall and because crypto is down I don't even get close to the amount of views I would get on my YouTube channel talking about crypto. It isn't a fun process. Then I chase a lot of airdrops and all that and sometimes it doesn't amount to much USD wise but I know there is an impending crypto global takeover and I know how I felt in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. I just know things are going to repeat and the more crypto we have the more boss level we will become.

But yeah it is real tough sometimes. The next time we go parabolic it could set me up for LIFE!

Medium is going awesome for me so far. It pays in USD. Not as lucrative as Steemit used to be, not yet anyways. But vastly more stable.

Oh really? How does Medium work? Did they implement revenue sharing on Advertisements or what?

You can use it for free, but not make money from your articles unless you pay a $50/year subscription fee. I assume that's where the money to pay writers comes from.

It works more or less like Steemit with a few differences. One difference is that articles don't have a deadline to earn money by, they keep earning you money indefinitely so long as people keep reading it as you're paid per "clap".

Another is that there's no HTML Markdown, all the stuff you'd do using that is built into Medium's web based word processor. It is a lot more polished and streamlined.

All in all I like it a great deal and recommend it. They pay directly to your bank account via stripe. It says on the site it's daily, but for me the payouts have occurred once per month. Maybe the frequency increases as your payouts do, IDK.

Do you post the same content there as you do on Steemit or will that trigger a plagerism filter?

Were you able to earn back the $50 pretty fast?

Same content as Steemit. No plagiarism filter issues so far. As you can see from the pic I posted earlier, it took me until month 4 to make $50, but I'd earned $30 over the prior two months. So I guess let's call it 3.5 months to make back the sub fee.

Steemit was a slow grind for me too, in the beginning. Medium offers a bigger prize though, stability.

I had to do a selfie already more than a year ago.
I cannot remember it's Binance or Bitfinex.

It would have been Bitfinex most likely. Binance doesn't require that stuff even for US customers. Bitfinex even dropped US customers because they were worried about meeting all the criteria....etc.

I guess you're right.

Depends how much u value your privacy. For me, $25 is waaaay to little to get me to go thru KYC process.

I'm probably in a few exchanges systems, but signed up for most a couple of years back, when KYC was not such a big deal, and they weren't collecting so many details.

DEXs offer a way forward, not requiring KYC measures, and allowing u custody of funds. Obviously still a problem with fiat on-ramps, but things like ramp.network might help.

Since I have had a Coinbase account since 2013 I never had to do a full body cavity search. With Kraken I had to do the whole selfie thing and holding a piece of paper saying that this was for the Kraken.com exchange...etc.

Bittrex was the one that pissed me off the most because with no warning suddenly I sent crypto there to trade and then they held it hostage until I completed taking selfies ...etc.

I actually had to do that bullshit with BitGrail too when I first bought Nano and there was that big hack so they locked down withdraws. I thought I had lost it but fortunately I was able to withdraw after completing the stuff and waiting about a week.

So far I have never lost any coins to and Exchange except HitBTC not giving me my Ignis airdrop and I ended up with $15 worth of Tether at one point and it won't let me trade out of it or transfer it. It pisses me off so bad.

Yes. I agree with you. Getting our identity in that way is a threat and should be stopped. It will make our identity to be exposed when they are been hacked

There is no reason they should collect all that. They are even trying to use facial recognition software.

a telephone number would be more than sufficient...

Yeah especially for airdrops like that. If they want to stop people from collecting multiple times they could put a couple other steps in. The phone number thing can be gamed. Some of these people somehow have access to all these SIM cards. There were people here who were able to create tons of accounts early on when the accounts were preloaded with a little bit of STEEM Power and they were able to farm the power from all those accounts. It ended up being quite valuable if they would have held and sold at the right times.

uhhhh...sometimes I forget I live on earth... lol
wow

Sod that for a joke...

I don't know.
Half of me says, they are just that shtupid, and can't think of a better way to give only one per guest.

The other half of me says that they are collecting this info because there is this guy standing just behind their right shoulder in a black suit and sunglasses...

Of course, they could be selling the info for actual money to fund their addictions.

I feel like they are proactively implementing this stuff to be on the safe side. But we see Binance not having all that and the guy who runs it is still free
