Silver Mines
Hi Friends,
When I was visiting a mining ghost town last weekend, I took the chance to do a little research on the area and look through a couple of the old mines.
These silver mines were near Barstow, California, which is in a desert climate with a small mountain range. Many tunnels were dug through the mountains, and the silver ore was hauled away by rail carts and then bigger trains to crushing and processing plants, where the material would be crushed and refined.
Recent assay results showed good silver content still in the ore, however, the cost to mine it out has made it essentially a breakeven to money losing process as the price of silver is still modest and costs of machinery and manpower has gone up at a higher rate over the years. There are no significant gold veins in this area (found at least), and silver production is usually a byproduct of gold mining.
Here are some shots of the shafts and topography of the area:
Interesting stuff for sure, and if you are anything like me, you love a good chunk of silver in your hands!
Thanks for coming by,
Brian

Ghost town. It's so scary 😱😱😱
Hehe! Yes, kind of scary!
By looking at the pictures I could not think of the possibility of workers who died while in the course of the mining activity, I heard there were lots of accidents that caused death in some of the mining here in the Philippines.
Yes; unfortunately that can be a side affect of mining operations
I'm packing my suitcase as we speak... ill bring the shovels, you bring some friends!! We will have this place making silver in no time
Hehe, it is there if you want to roll up the sleeves!
I want a chunk of silver!! lol, Old mines are so cool. I have explored several here in AZ. Some entrances have been boarded up/fenced in, one of my favorites in the Superstitions was. It was an awesome old mine, a favorite of many hikers/explorers. I used to take dates there lol. One time I was on a date and we lit candles (like the small pumpkin ones) and set them down like every 100 feet. Then on the way back it was fun to walk without our flashlights on. It was epic.
Wow, that is a great date idea! Though I bet it could freak some girls out!
hahaha yeah, it was fun. The girl I was with, thought it was awesome. It wasn't the first date, haha.
it is very beautiful, I like it
Glad that is the case!
