Sanderling!
Working The Wrack Line...
This little Sanderling was working the Wrack Line at Plum Island, the other day. You know, you see all those shorebirds, the tiny ones who come in big groups, also knick-named Peeps fly in as a group, land, work the surf, or wrack, and then, take off as a group, often turning in midair as a group.
They are fascinating to watch. The group behavior, the movements, synchronized, or at least, as close to it as seems... until, the group takes off and once in a while, one stays... He was interested in finding something. Clearly, head down and intent, looking searching for a little morsel here.
Cold and windy day weather wise. COLD.
But I love watching the group behavior and seeing the individuals int he flock. They are so interesting. I can't Not Watch!
