Bindi’s New Wheels

We could all use some help from time to time throughout the course of life. My dad assisted my mother for years with her illness until her needs outweighed what he alone could provide, which ultimately ended up with her in a permanent facility...where she will receive some help once again. This time with the assistance by experienced care givers and equipment made for her specific needs.

It’s a brutal part of life to watch those that you love break down in front of you. I’m seeing it with mom...and I’m seeing it with my pup Bindi. With mom, I know this is as good as it gets currently. Over time, her mind and body will collapse further...but I know she’s in good hands and I try to go as often as I can to visit. I’ll actually be going shortly after I write this. With my pup, it’s pretty much solely on me to do what I can to help her along.

She’s been struggling as of late. Between her Degenerative Myelopathy & Canine Cognitive Dysfunction, it’s been challenging to say the least. Her mind is going along with her hind legs, and that is a tough pill to swallow for not only me...but her as well. Ya see...all she wants to do is walk. Pretty much all the time unless she’s eating or sleeping...and there isn’t much sleep as of late. That is kinda getting better though with the aid of some supplements and medications.

Point is, she’s a busy minded husky. Always has been. Always will be. The big problem lies with when her legs are too weak to carry her on her own. When she just wants to walk but her body won’t allow her to. This just leads to her whining nonstop. I’m sure she doesn’t understand that a little resting now and then is needed and will do her good. So I’m hoping that her new ride will be a piece of helping solve this complex and miserable puzzle.

Her wheel chair arrived today and I’m pretty excited. I ordered her a full support 4 wheeled cart that will assist her in her golden years. My hope is that my soon to be 16 year old girl will be able to utilize the cart on days where she is determined to walk but can’t get further than a couple steps before plopping down. Or even as a way to get daily exercise and to keep her mind busy and active. We can put it inside on days with shitty weather or outside in the yard for her to wander and explore.

I really hope she takes to it and doesn’t reject it. That would be soul crushing as this is one of the last hopes I have in providing her a good quality of life. If she does, I could take her on longer walks as well. Best case scenario is that she adapts to it and that it works when she wants to walk. Possibly even tiring her out a bit to allow for somewhat remotely decent sleep. I’d pray for that currently.

So I put most of it together but I’ll need the wife’s assistance in properly adjusting it. Should be all set later tonight. I’ll update with how it’s working out soon. Fingers crossed that this helps because if not...I’m almost out of options and will be completely heartbroken. Please keep my beautiful Bindi in your thoughts tonight. ❤️

Oh, my heart! You're an amazing dog person, and I guarantee she knows how much you care and appreciates you. I hope the wheels allow her to feel more herself and enjoy the rest of her days. Sending much love to you and your sweet pup.

Thx my dear. I hope so as well because I’m pretty much out of options after this and one other med change which I’m hoping to do this week. We will totally accept your well wishes. ❤️

You’re a good dude!

I feel for ya, I think we have some similar situations going on as well.

Hope you catch some good “breaks”.

Game night looked pretty cool btw.

Game night was well needed and fun. Wish I had more time for it.

Thx so much. Sick pup as well? Or other things.

Please update us on whether it works out for her.

So far she won’t walk in it by herself. But I’m hoping to keep her on the leash and kinda show her how to do it.

awww Bindi!

I sincerely hope that this gets her moving around a bit. It is so sad to see this situation but you sure are going above and beyond the call of duty to help her out. Good work pal, you are a great fluffer dad.

Me as well. So far she stands there not knowing what to do. She will walk in it if I lead her with a leash. Hopefully it clicks. She’s been an amazing companion and I owe it to her to do everything possible.
