Things Are Not Quite Adding Up

I was on Twitter a fortnight ago and something caught my eye. Steemit were hiring. Yep! Did anyone else see this? I looked back on the tweeter machine and it ain't there anymore. Somebody did a delete with their fingers. I found the roles on linkedin though so I wasn't imagining things it seems. I remember this so clearly because I powered up 500 steem because of the news. I love Steemit but I like to do some research before I invest in a coin and this news coming from the horse's tweet added to all the great plans with SMT's at steemfest were enough to make me take the plunge. Last night I hear that 70% of the workforce has been cut.
I would of liked to go to Steemfest and I will attend next year if we are still around but I can't help feeling that there are a few disgruntled Steemians that spent their hard earned money traveling to Krakow Poland only to be told a week later that projects such as the long awaited SMT launch was on the back burner. I would be well pissed off if I was one of the delegates. Everyone came back from Steemfest rather upbeat (apart from the 1000 depressing Auschwitz posts). That upbeatness was taken away by one post last night and has plunged the whole community into a state of uncertainty.
But it made me think. There is certainly a lack of transparency between the core team and the rest of the community. Ned was doing a questions and answers session and I was amazed at some of the questions that well regarded witness's were asking. They were as much in the dark as anyone it looks like. Were the Dapp developers taken by surprise with this announcement last night also? I am amazed at the lack of communication that is going on and also the lack of engagement from the big boys.
They should be leading from the front, engaging and curating. @cryptoandcoffee mentioned 20 OR 40 million SP in the steemit account just sitting there. It must be in escrow or something legal that makes it untouchable but it's not as if they are engaging with us which is a shame.
We all want steemit to work. We are all invested in it. I am still a small timer here so I can only imagine if someone with a significant cash investment in the platform is feeling. I would be extremely worried by that statement last night and I am surprised the currency hasn't gone to 20 cent with this news. Cryptocurrency is funny in a way because the news takes a while to filter down to the coin's value. I was fully expecting Steemit to tank today but Bitcoin rebounded. It will be interesting to see how Steem will do once bitcoin goes down again and it will go down again!
It is clear the the massive drop in bitcoin must of forced Steem Inc's hand last week because if this was going on during steemfest I would of been very surprised. Maybe it's time to get in some new blood and its a good time to trim the fat.

Another position available. Things are not quite adding up. I don't know how crypto has such a bad name!

I joined in May this year and I have only seen the price drop and then drop further. I still have hope of a recovery, but with the head person talking about laying off 70 percent of the workforce that recovery may be a fair way into the future.

If you watched that as an investor it would not fill you with confidence. I was a little shocked at how it was run out. I know he is trying to give the impression of calm and in control but what I saw was not that. I have been involved with loads of companies over the years and that was not a good public broadcast at all.
I am not blind to everything people say as we have to look out for everyone on here but it looks like the bigger investors need to get involved now.

Yeah too right.

Ned answered smooths question, smooth was one of the original developers, he also answered a sock puppet account, and oh wait, the third person he answered, in that whole one hour, and the last may I add, is a witness, he keeps at the number 2 witness spot, getting the picture yet? maybe he should bang on about SMT's again for another 5 years, that worked last time. Just saying!

I couldn't agree more. Didn't know about the staged questions. Thanks for the heads up!

You maybe missed my post this morning also then, I am giving everyone the heads up, and tomorrows post will be very easy to follow, if if non technical people view. I am not willing to let people get ripped off my friend.

I’m heading over to your house now for a good old read .

:-) I shall make it easier to digest tomorrow. That post assumes knowledge of steemit and time scales.

Taking things at face value like I have been known to do it would seem to me that Steemit Inc. isn't even a blip on the radar screen of people working in the tech industry. Those job postings have a posted date of three weeks ago and the one had 16 views and the other had 27.
I don't know anything about the tech / software / engineering of any of this but those seem like very small numbers of views for the computer / tech type world of job opportunities.
You did say that you found this on twitter didn't you? Isn't twitter where all the tech folks are at, along with everyone else but me?
I could understand the low number of views if was posted on some obscure site somewhere but I would think that it was published where it would get noticed by people who could actually do this type of work.
Makes me wonder...

What I saw on twitter from either Steemit or Ned saying we are hiring. The photos above are from LinkedIn which as you know is the worlds biggest recruitment site. 16 days old is correct. Just over 2 weeks ago. The 70% cuts were announced last Wednesday so not that big of a gap. If I was planning on cutting 70% of my workforce , I would not be planning to hire 2 devs a week before the announcement . His hand was forced I imagine and quite promptly.

Well, I know how things can change fast in business situations. The contract I worked under for the last eleven years expired 10/31/18. It was an annual contract and was normally renewed by the 15th of each October, this year on the 11th I got notice that it was not being renewed. So my contract ran out on Halloween night.
I just found it interesting that it appeared there wasn't much interest in those job listings from steemit given the very low number of views in what is supposed to be a real hot tech industry.
Surely his hand was forced just like the people I work for when they had to tell me and another guy that our positions were being eliminated. It happens, its business.

Sorry to hear about losing the contract . They gave you two weeks notice which is not very professional after 11 years . True that’s business but it should of been a month at least.

well this isn't very encouraging haha. But if they're hiring, that should be a good thing, right?

I'm just trying not to obsess too much over the price so that maybe year or two down the line I'll be surprised by the upsurge. But we'll see.

More worried about the 70% layoffs as a result of the downturn and Ned talking about Steemit not being very prominent in the future . 😱😱😱

....and I will attend next year if we are still around

watch out for little men wearing moustaches

😂😂😂. Nows our chance.

...don't accept drinks of fulltimegeek...lol

Did you watch Ned's live stream this morning? I'm curious what the reaction is.

To be honest @melinda010100 I thought he spoke an awful lot of nothing and I wouldn't be a big fan. This is the guy steering the ship and I’m was more confused at the end before I was at the start.

I found it depressing and hope the community can step up and fill the holes. It was good to hear him acknowledge that eSteem is running independently of steemit.

Yeah that’s good to hear as if Steemit goes at least esteem can take the mantle and myself and yourself won’t be that affected as we post using good old esteem.

I watched some of the Q & A video yesterday (first 20-25 minutes) and have to say, I didn't see any plan of action, roadmap for the future or any discussion about re-assurance to the steem community. That's really the first time I've seen the post and Ned himself so going to give the benefit of the doubt but will watch the rest of the video later.

I'm trying to stay optimistic but at the same time, seeing thing from all angles, it's hard to see much good. Communities here all have something in common but there's nothing to say that bloggers/musicians and others will migrate to a new platform if they feel uncertain from what's happened really since HF20 - new accounts being unable to post etc.

#steemitbloggers

Yeah more people will start hedging their bets . I know I will. I totally agree . He didn’t fill me with confidence. Wonder what the 70% thought about the jolly up at steemfest

I have been hedging bets this whole year in crypto with all the music sites and blogging platforms. Mitigate risk and all that.

The only person I spoke to who went to steemfest was pretty buoyant about it all and said he felt ned looked like he had the wake up call he needed but that was before the events of the last few weeks... Don't know if he still feels the same

None of this is very surprising. Since I came onto Steem there seemed to be a lot of hype and optimism that was not actually supported by the reality of what was happening. Hopefully, we can get through and replace the hype with something that is more in keeping with the hope.
