in #review7 years ago

Hello guys!! This @bezil once again, hoping to attract your attention with my honest reviews on a movie i believe you should or must have seen. The film ''Captain Phillips'' is directed by Paul Greengrass, and starred one of my all time favorite actor, Tom Hanks. Honestly, I really don't fancy Paul Greengrass directed movies, but after the release of his best directed ''Bourn'' movie series, it really changed my mind about him completely. As i said earlier with the main protagonist of this movie being one of my favorite actort, my views on this movie will probably be entirely from a Tom Hanks fan's perspective. And with that, let me delve into my inarticulate thoughts on the movie.

Movie: Captain Philips (2013)
Genre: Drama, Thriller
Director: Paul Greengrass
Cast: Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi, and Catherine Keener

Synopsis: The movie is based on the true-life story of Captain Richard Phillips, who was taken hostage by armed Somali pirates, attempted to escape and was eventually rescued by the U.S. Navy.

Review: Based on a true-life tragic event, In 2009, an American ship was stormed by a Somali pirates Bucaneers, in which the captain was held hostage, and later traded for a large sum of money. When Paul Greengrass discovers this fact, the director immediately has the idea of making a feature film. But instead of falling into the simple thriller and a captivating action film, i'm surprised and okay with how the director tried and elevate the initial postulate to a highly intelligent political and social reflection. Refusing any form of Manichaeism, i'm glad atleast that Paul Greengrass gives us an ultra realistic drama, without artifice, where every detail is captured with a disconcerting ease, proving once again that few directors know how to handle the camera like this fellow.

After watching this movie, i must say it caught me in the throat and the guts with a captivating suspense; clinging to my seats for nearly two hours, the experience i had is a total nervousness from beginning to the end. But in addition to the obvious scenic and scripting qualities, the quality of the footage is also largely due to Tom Hanks' breathtaking performance. I was really engrossed on how he brilliantly manage to inspire the audience with his impeccable performance. Once again, Tom Hanks permeates the film with his aura, his ease in playing a character to the tips of his nails. - Not to be left out, I was very impressed with the eccentric performance of Barkhad Abdi. I believe that this was Abdi's first major role and he really made the best of it. He made it more impactful as it's a real story.

Overall, Captain Phillips is a great film, held by the two main men, Hanks and Abdi on a level of high intensity. Even after 6 years, i must say the movie ''Captain Phillips'' is worth the watch everytime.
