It's all relative
I wish I was rich.
I wish I had 100.000 followers.
I wish I never had to work a day in my life.
Okay, I guess most people have had thoughts like that at least occasionally. But you can only appreciate the high when you've experienced the low. I think that goes for everything.
If you see the crazy stuff some rich people do you know that saying is true. After all doesn't buying something you've saved up for for months feel a lot better than when you can just go out and buy one in every available color?
Back in the day when I would go out and rent a movie I would feel like a kid in the candy store. Which one to choose? So many I still wanted to watch! Nowadays we don't even have to leave home to rent a movie. Some movies can even be rented for free. What's the consequence? I can't choose... They all seem less interesting now. It's like the whole movie renting experience has lost its shine. Do you recognize that?
I think it works that way with everything. And yeah sure I would love being able to travel for weeks or months on end if I had an unlimited money supply. But I am sure it will eventually lose its shine over time.
Another deserted Island. Another temple. Another plane. Another white beach. Yawn.
(Easy guys! I said eventually. I understand it can take a long loooooong time to get sick of this)
So what am I trying to say here? Try to appreciate what you’ve got. And if you happen to feel down try to think about it in a different way: You need this low to be able to grasp whenever things are looking up for you :)
Enjoy the feeling of the sun or your skin, the birds chirping in the trees and the smell of flowers in the summer. It might sound a bit cheesy or woolly, at least I used to think it did. But the longer I think about it the more brilliant it gets.
Little ways to make every day worth it. Because you’ll never get days back. Hope you’re enjoying yours ;)
