New Species of Whale
Whale co-operation has been well documented in nature. A beautiful example being the bubble net with synchronised feeding lunges, a highly effective technique utilised by humpback whales, (Megaptera novaeangliae.) The question is, can our whales work together to maximise the effectiveness of their combined power to distribute Steem? I appreciate they are all working, in their own way, to build, secure, promote and sustain Steemit and the Steemchain. However, with co-operation, might it be possible for them to achieve more?
This is not the first time patronage has been suggested, but it seems such a good idea. Couldn't the Steemit whales co-ordinate to use their Voting Power to improve Steem distribution by agreeing to commit a percentage of their voting power to a category of subjects (like the arts) for a specific period of time, after which they each take a new category. Rinse and repeat!
The whales would retain a percentage of Voting Power for use on any subject, so really great posts could still be rewarded by multiple whales....but perhaps there would be less posts with super rewards and more widely distributed big rewards in areas that might otherwise have failed to be noticed. The other benefit would be that the swarm voting will be more widely distributed.
With the greatest respect for our Steemitera Curitariae.
Whales we can observe here - are not completely natural. They are human-made. Ideas as this in that post should have reason for whales, which will come from community with the help of community votes here on steemit. For example @roelandp (for his steemstream) or @discombobulated (for his steemitX) - should be whales in development articles. They proved they "swim well and deep enough" But one more thing. Whales - are another censors. So answer me please, we need censorship on uncensored Steemit?
And guys like @ned @dan - they are fathers-creators, not whales.
There is no complete censorship on Steemit, the blockchain remembers everything regardless of up or down votes. In the context of my post, a 'Whale' relates to an account's greater influence over curation rewards when compared to every other account, and therefore the greater power for potential distribution of Steem to other accounts. No doubt, as you suggest in your post, new whales will be born eventually from the ranks of Steemers!
Too few people know how to look at modified posts or comments. For example, here was the question. Reasonable as for me, but it was not upvoted and disconcerted author deleted it. My comment now looks like irrelevant. And it is what anybody else should watch. I think, the modifying post ability should be limited in time. After 24 hours and first reward it should became unchangeable.
A time-lock on post editing is a very good idea. I really like it. You should write a post discussing it and mention dan and ned. I will certainly upvote it if I find it!
Thanks, you are free to discuss it with anybody. No copyrights) I am glad you like it. Your voice is more loud, i think so it has more chances to be heard. If the post time-locking feature would be implemented - it will no matter who offered it. The main aim is to build better steemit.
Good idea. But recognizing true valuable and unique posts is hard. It's so easy to repost from somewhere else. Few want spend their time checking Google Images and the like.
Solid article! And I completely agree with you, I too feel that the SteemPower whales should group together to open our eyes for all of the categories Steemit has to offer, and not just create trending topics based on their personal diverse interests.
Many great writers and bloggers article's get lost in the 'New' section almost as soon as they are posted, and I feel that it makes the writers lose hope and motivation in their own articles.
Anyway, Steemit is amazing and it's headed one direction, and that's upwards. I'm really looking forward to seeing what it will evolve into the next couple of months and years.

Great post! I've been bookmarking posts like this left and right. Thank you!
Bot?
No. I'm real. I promise. lol
I'm still incredibly new to all this, so even posts like this which could be taken more as motivational than instructional are still very valuable to me.
Steemit Council would be a disaster.
I agree. Co-operation between sovereign whales is not the same though.
Nice post ô‿ô
miss Free Willy :(
Yes, let's have a dedicated whale for our #photography tag! :)
