The Mystery Box (Powerhousecreatives contest entry)
This is my entry for the Time Travelling community contest by @steemitbloggers and @zord189.
"RING"!
Bleary eyed, I pulled myself out of bed... wait, not my bed... off the floor of my toddler's room where I had spent the last few months sleeping every night on the floor after being woken up by screams. A toddler with night terrors... never a great time for a parent!
Opening the door, I saw a parcel lying on the ground... all wrapped up nicely like a birthday present! Looking around, there was no-one to be seen or heard, just a weird odour of ozone and a faint tingling of electricity. It was still pretty dark, and the Netherlands was putting its best imitation of a wind machine.... at least it wasn't raining though!
Stepping out and picking up the box, I saw a little note attached to it:
Hi past self,
This is your future self, hailing from the year 2050. Time travel is pretty common these days, a touch expensive, but it is possible to send small objects and packages back to the past (or future). Perhaps in the future, we will see machines scaling up to be able to send humans through... although, the last attempt to send mice through a time rift ended up in a some gruesome results for the mice.
Anyway, inside this box is a little gift from me to my dear old past self. It will be something that is of great importance and practical use. Something that will change your life, you will know when to use it.

Okay... that sounds intriguiing... I wonder what it could be, perhaps an almanac to the future, just like Back to the Future? Or perhaps a tip on the next shitcoin to moon?... sorry, altcoin! Or perhaps the secrets to Physics and a way of unlocking our current impasse? Future self must have included some really great stuff in there!
Like a child on Christmas, I gingerly shook the box. No sound... and disappointingly light-weight. Oh well... I started opening the box.... to reveal another box. Okay... my future self is an arsehole! Pass the Parcel it is... with one player! At least I'm guaranteed to win the prize at the centre!
Five boxes in, and I find an small object wrapped in silk and tied with a little piece of cord. Untying the cord, I take a little peek....
... a house key? WTF????
SLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay... I'm not a creative writer... I'm going back to my day job!

So you only need to find a house to for that key. Or build one around it. Maybe that was the message. Time(travel) to roll up your sleevies...

You might not think of yourself as a creative writer, I did enjoy reading this. It took me a second to realize what the house key was for, but after a second read, I got it. LMAO. Very well done, imo;
Glad you got it! My wife read it recently and she told me she didn't get it at all... I was a touch unclear, as I was trying to write it in a short time and to not give too much away!
