Ice Paradise

In the area of the Leidenhage shopping area is the outdoor covered ice rink of Ice Paradise. This is a great place for a couple hours with kids or a group of kids.

Now, let's get this out of the way, I'm Australian, so I'm lucky to stay on two feet on ice. I can't stop and I can only turn by bouncing off something. Suffice to say, this is not a review of the quality of the ice rink or its equipment or anything that might take expertise to make judgement on.

The ice rink is open from November until March, on each day. Opening times are here. There is skate hire and also many places to eat close by. I would advise you go early so it isn't too crowded, especially if you are a retarded skater like us!

Our kids are growing up in The Netherlands, and so winter sports in ice and snow will be pretty normal for them. This winter, my oldest kept talking about skating and so we eventually had time to give it a try.

I was wondering how we would cope, given that we can't skate at all. But a friend told us of this place and the penguins!

The child holds on to the handle and away they go! It's like training wheels for skates!

Our kid had absolutely no experience with skates and this thing makes the entire process easier and much more enjoyable than falling all the time! We are definitely coming back more often next year!
