Rediscovering Music – Good Ol’ Days for Throwback Thursday (Part 5)
Blast From the Past
DC continuously tags me on his 7-Day Wayback Music Challenge even though he knows I don’t have time to write a post. So here it goes, a combination of (one) new and old songs. I know I’m not following the rules of the contest to the dot, but I’ve never been one to follow rules on here. Who has time to write a song post every day for seven days?
Getting a post out so ahem, no one can allude to someone being a prune since I never respond to his other challenges.
Stevie B - When I Dream About You
Here is a blast from the past to meet the challenge. I don’t know if there is still a day called ‘senior ditch day’, but we had those back in the days. I’ve always been a nerd in high school but I started hanging around the cool people and life became more exciting. We weren’t seniors at the time, but when senior ditch day came around, my new friends decided to join in the fun. They did have to do some arm twisting to get me to ditch, but I happily agreed when I found out my high school crush was going.
So my high school crush. He was part of the cool crowd and of course paid me no mind! We started hanging out in the same circle since my friends were all “cool” now. On senior ditch day, we all got on the bus for the 10 minute drive to the beach. This song was playing on the bus’s stereo system and I remember sneaking glances at this heartthrob several rows down. We did have a beautiful day at the beach and he even signed my yearbook! Sadly, I lost said yearbook the same day so no clue what he wrote in it. It could have been a confession of his puppy love back, but I will never know what could have been. Sigh. I wonder what happened to him.
When I dream about you
That's when everything's alright
You're in my arms, here next to me, forever
When I dream about you, girl you never go away
Just close my eyes, wait for my dreams
'Cause I still love loving you.
Macklemore ft. Kesha – Good Old Days
Here is a newly discovered song. Not my typical artist choice, but I do enjoy listening to this song. We all reminisce about the good ol’ days and dream of what could have been and all the while, could be missing on the now.
Never thought we'd get old, maybe we're still young
Maybe we always look back and think it was better than it was
Maybe these are the moments
Maybe I've been missing what it's about
Been scared of the future, thinking about the past
While missing out on now
Savage Garden – Truly Madly Deeply
So if any one of you remember the days of pagers and being considered ‘cool’ if you have a song intro as your voicemail greeting, well, here was my song choice. I made sure this chorus part was playing so others could see how cool and loving I had been then.
I want to stand with you on a mountain,
I want to bathe with you in the sea.
I want to lay like this forever,
Until the sky falls down on me
Genesis – In Too Deep
Phil Collins is one of my absolute favorite artists. I was a fan of soft rock in my younger days and started listening to him way before my high school years. I continued listening to this song in my high school years and had it recorded on almost every one of my cassette playlist.
My cousin-in-law told me years later that the song was on his mind for the longest time but he had no idea who the singer was. Mind you, these were days before the internet so we couldn’t simply do a google search to find out an artist’s name. He had to dig for truths the hard way. He could have just asked me and saved himself the trouble. 😀
All that time I was searching, nowhere to run to, it started me thinking,
Wondering what I could make of my life, who'd be waiting,
Asking all kinds of questions, to myself, but never finding the answers
Gary Barlow – So Help Me Girl
Last song of my blast from the past. I remember cruising with my girls in high school and they absolutely loved this single. So it played in the car again and again in our rides around the city or ditches to the beach. Notice I love the beach?
You could have kissed me
Like this wasn't gonna last
Kept me from saying
Something I'll never take back
You could've held me like there was no chance of me waking up where I am
You could have stopped short of every dream I ever had
Here are the rules (that I’m following)
Choose
onesong(s) from your high-school/college years.
Write a few words about who made you listen to this song for the first time, what this song means to you (was it a breakup song? you blasted it at 100% on your audio system when you were partying with your friends?) whatever you want.
Write your text while listening to the song. As soon as the song ends, wrap up what you where writing and submit it.
Tag it with #musicwaybackchallenge and include these rules at the bottom of your post.
Thank you for stopping by! Have a BEE-ATIFIC day!

Oh my god Savage Garden... the memories!
💓Genesis.
Lovely little trip down memory lane. Fun way to get to know you a bit more.
Hi @osm0sis. Memory lane seems so long ago. I can't even fathom being that young and excited about everything anymore. The good old days, sigh. I love these busy days too and building new memories. Sometimes, a day of good old reminiscing is good too.
You didn't have to stop by my silly song post. Appreciate you doing so!
Yeah music back when we were teenagers held such an importance place in our lives. The soundtrack of our lives... Felt like some artists personally knew you and made the songs just for you sometimes!
And the memories shared with friends, brand new experiences made... Feels like each of those moments had its song.
Now you got me all nostalgic hehe.
I like silly song posts. I'll stop by those any day😀
A lil more ballad then I’m used too but I dig it!
Thanks for stopping by to check out my list. I tend to like the ballad songs. Your list below is definitely on my list to check out soon!
Well I am glad you took the time for this one. I had not heard Good Old Days, yeah I am way out of touch. I love that so much I listened 3 times then shared with someone special.
Who would have thought you are old enough for the cassette mix tapes. Seems these days no body remembers life before Google. Times were tough on us back then.
I keep thinking one day I'm going to return all comments with song lyrics just to see if I can, and see who notices lol
BTW way to go on the multi tasking.
I'm glad you liked the song by Macklemore! I'm more of a ballad, love song type, but enjoyed that one too. I have it playing on my playlist most days.
Lol, yes, I had a collection of cassette tapes and CDs back then. My boombox had both, and only the cassette tape had an option to record my own playlist. I did hate it when my car radio system would unwind my cassette reels, grrr.
Sometimes I wonder how we did anything before Google. I remember I needed help with an AP physics homework, a class I didn't belong in at all, and I ended up calling a geeky friend from a different school for help (we had moved away). I had to read her the question, and she was so smart she was actually able to help me with the answer. That was the days of communication. Now, google has all the answer.
I probably wouldn't know all the song lyrics myself, lol, That's too much thinking required.
Man. The only group/artist I know to any great extent is Genesis. My wife took a liking to Phil Collins after all things, the soundtrack for Disney's Tarzan. :)
I had to get the CD for her and she played it a lot.
Since I can't write and listen to music at the same time (yeah, I'm that guy), I'll just tell you that the only song that I can remember anyone remotely telling me to listen to during high school or the year I went to college was Footloose. And actually, it had more to do with the original movie than just the song.
Of course, it was a girl, but there was never anything more than a casual friendship (I was too shy and I don't think she was interested in me beyond being nice and talking to me, so no love interest there) but she was really excited about seeing the movie, counting down the days to see it, and then was in love with it afterwards.
I eventually saw the movie when it got to video, and to this day, I like most of the songs from the soundtrack, but the title song, Footloose is one of my all time favorites.
I do love You'll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins on the Tarzan soundtrack. I wish I could sing that as a lullaby for my kiddos, but I can't carry a tune at all. They only get twinkle twinkle.
Thanks for sharing your song from memory lane. It can be a combination of both the song/movie that brings up memories of the past. Now, you should have asked her out to the seeing the Footloose movie, given her excitement over it. In a friendship capacity of course. I haven't seen the movie, but I will definitely have to add that to my watch list.
I haven't seen the most recent one, so I don't know how it turned out. You may actually want to watch both. :)
Yeah, well, that was 35 years or so ago, so I'm not going to dwell on it now. I was in a totally different place then, so what I should have done and what I could of or would have done are all over the map. :)
My wife isn't a great singer, but that didn't stop her from singing it to our boys when they were nine and seven. Of course, most Mexican mothers don't care if they're embarrassing you when they're doing it, either. :)
Todays music has gone down hill ....
I do find it hard to find music I like nowadays. I love some songs I've discovered, so not all have gone down hill, but it doesn't compare to music of the past.
Even though music isn't my area of expertise, I can tell you put a lot of soul into your posts about it! I hope you get curied on it, I have my fingers crossed for you :)
I agree with you, this is definitely a curiable post! I think it should also get the IO-utopian vote too ;)
Great minds think alike @ilovepoorpeople... We both agree that @beeyou is super talented and can get votes from all the different categories that are here... If they had a marathon runners competition society, she could win that one too :)
This is her smiley of that :P

I know music isn't your expertise, appreciate that you stop by. :)
I love it. Thank you for finally clearing some time in your schedule. Or more so you knew I would never leave you alone about it
:)
It seems we listened to different songs in high school young buck. I wanted to throw in some snoop and warren g but that was taking it back to middle school. I figured I'd stick to some of the rules.
I listened to snoop D O double G in high school. Fo shizzle my nizzle.
You are loving these music posts aren't you @beeyou! That reminds me, I have one to do as well...or actually seven I guess :)
I enjoy music, plus DC kept tagging me to make a post. So I finally did. :) I don't have time to make seven posts, wish I did!
Good for you @beeyou! One step at a time 😅

@abh12345, look, our suggestions were taken into consideration! There is now an option to respond with stop. Guess they won’t make it on to your next bot post. ;)
