Not Every Painting Can Be A Winner ..

And that sums up my opinion on this piece. Can you tell that I am unsatisfied with it? I was considering naming it 'Muddy Waters', and may just still do that after I get done with this post. This was one of those paintings that I knew from the beginning wasn't going to end well. The paint wasn't cooperating with me and the colors didn't seem appropriate. I figured I would keep going regardless. The only thing I would really be upset about was the time I was wasting on it. There were a few things that I liked about the painting; Not all of it was bad. In the end I came to the conclusion that I just over applied the paint and "muddied the waters". Things started taking on a brown tone. I will chalk it up to my lack of knowledge on watercolor painting. If anything else, it drives me that much closer to taking a class, in order to learn the proper ways.

Even Though My Hearts Not In This One ..

I am still going to give you the progress photos. I think it's good to share the bad as well as the good. You'll see how the painting went from decent to not so good. If you agree or disagree with me, please let me know. I started this painting with just an idea in my head and no reference photos to work off of. That was probably my first mistake. Either way, I took my idea and slowly applied it to the paper.

I gathered my supplies and chose to utilize some different watercolor paints this time. The last few times I used my dry watercolor blocks.

I taped a 5" x 7" piece of paper to my clipboard and struck a horizon line about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. I took my idea and slowly applied it to the paper.

Maybe I should of stopped here, but I did not.. So here we go, lets muddy those waters!

IMG_5304.JPG

Finished ! ..

But not happy. I'll keep it, reluctantly :-/ What did I learn from this? Not to paint sunsets with watercolors. I should stick with my oil paints. So I will put this one to rest and move on. Having learned something, It's not a total waste of time. Okay.. I am done being hard on myself :-)

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.

Thank You!!! Proud of and Love You Guys Too! You made the start of my day begin with a smile :-)

Hey Jerry! I just saw it. Accepted it. I don’t post that often on there. Time to time. ☺️

I actually spend more time there, as I have a lot of family and friends from years of time spent posting.
For me, it is easier to interact there than here. I dunno, it is just familiarity I guess.
I hate, really HATE the red numbers (notifications) but I can still more easily see and respond when someone sees or comments on a post of mine far and away better than steemit or any of the other front ends (as they are now being called, or are they tribes? or Hives? what the hell will it be next?)
Here at least though, I can get paid a few pennies for a year of work.
I saw you accepted and posted my standard "Welcome Note"
Thanks Brad @bemillergalleries. Did you see my bacon post?

Thank you :-) and to think that I don't care for it much. Everyone sees something different I suppose.
