The past in the present
This day was very successful. In addition to accidentally finding a treasure chest, I made a discovery. It is small and concerns only me. But for me it was tantamount to an archaeological find. I discovered new yards. They do not belong to the era of Leningrad or Petrograd. I would take them from the 18-19th centuries. And some of them from an earlier time.
Этот день был очень удачным. Помимо случайного обретения сундука с сокровищами, я сделал открытие. Оно невелико и касается только меня. Но для меня обо было равноценно археологической находке. Я открыл для себя новые дворы. Они не относятся к эпохе Ленинграда или Петрограда. Я бы отнёс их с 18-19 векам. А кое что из них и более раннему времени.
У меня нет весомых аргументов. Я не буду ничего утверждать. Скажу только, что Петроградская сторона являетя старейшей частью Санкт-Петребурга. Это точно никто не оспорит. Я же просто покажу вам несколько дворовых сюжетов. На этой стене красного кирпича сейчас висят провода и кондиционеры. Местами видна новая кладка. Но посмотрите внимательно на кирпич, на порядок его кладки. Двухэтажный флигель тоже построен из красного кирпича. Просто он облицован и покрашен.
I have no weighty arguments. I will not say anything. I can only say that the Petrograd side is the oldest part of St. Petersburg. No one will dispute this for sure. I’ll just show you some courtyard plots. On this wall of red brick wires and air conditioners are now hanging. In some places a new masonry is visible. But look carefully at the brick, at the order of its laying. The two-story outbuilding is also built of red brick. It is simply lined and painted.
А это просто лифты. Нет возможности соорудить из внутри здания. Поэтому его просто сделали снаружи.
And these are just elevators. There is no way to build from inside the building. Therefore, it was simply made outside.
Многие стены высоких флигелей не имеют окон или всего лишь несколько штук. Я не знаю, с чем это связано. Возможно было обрушение части дома и стену пришлось замуровать. Может быть были другие причины. Но согласитесь, вряд ли так задумывал архитектор при проектировании.
Many walls of high wings do not have windows or just a few pieces. I do not know what this is connected with. Perhaps there was a collapse of part of the house and the wall had to be bricked up. Maybe there were other reasons. But you must admit, it is unlikely that the architect intended this when designing.
Здесь можно бродить часами и открывать что-то новое за каждым углом и поворотом. Даже одна и та же стена в другом ракурсе выглядит по-своему.

Вы наверно догадались, что моим компаньоном в этом путешествии во вренмени был мистер Гелиос. Эти фотографии я почти не проявлял. К сожалению день был пасмурным. Поэтому все краски притушены. Но это даже больше подходит для этих старых дворов

Those kinds of walls indicate that the architect either designed it when there was another tall building next to it, or in anticipation of another being built

They got demolished, perhaps as part of slum clearance or similar. That's what has happened in my city
