Neanderthal Odor comes to Austria
Couple of weeks ago I found a project made by artist Kentaro Yamada in collaboration with perfumer Euan McCall called Neandertal Perfume™. The artist wrote that he was intrigued by the relationships between Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens.
They lived side by side around 10000 years, but our ancestor disappeared from earth app. 30 000 years ago. Actually, scientists are still not sure if Neanderthal was our predecessor or another type of Sapiens.
By the way this spice was living in Europe 10 times longer than we do, he was quite intelligent that made stone tools, buried dead bodies, used medical plants and even created some sort of cave art.
Kentaro Yamada used an iconic image of Neanderthal’s stone tool for his fragrance project and made a package of perfume based on this shape.
I really liked the design of it but it costs almost 200 euro, so I decided not to buy it now. But there is another option to order samples of the perfume, so I purchased just samples.
So, today I got two samples! One is light and contains: leaves, incense, hinoki, orris, galbanum, leather, ambergris. And dark Neandertal has: green foliage, pepper berries, citrus fruits, aromatic seeds, leather amber, incense resins, oud. It smells very special and I think I can use it.
The artist wrote that the collection of ingredients he based on research, so this perfume can really contain some parts of Neanderthal’s everyday life. Believe it or not.
I found out that our DNA genes contain about 4% of Neanderthal! So, we shouldn’t forget our relatives.
And it made me think that when some smart people talk about creativity they say that intelligent person makes, but creative person steal (=copy). What if Homo sapiens wasn’t so much creative at the beginning but just learned and copied from our older brethren (cave art, stone tools, etc)?
