Parque Central, Caracas
"They were the tallest skyscrapers in Latin America in the richest country in the region then." With 225 meters until 2003, they were still the highest in the region.
It was a city within the city designed especially for professionals and young couples who could live there and "get out as little as possible" because they had all the services. The project included turning Parque Central into a cultural heart, thanks to the construction of the Sofia Imber contemporary art museum in one of its spaces.
The State assumed maintenance instead of being the associated owners. "And what happened to the country happened, a degradation parallel to the country," Fernandez-Shaw laments the deterioration of the center since the 1980s, together with that of Venezuela.
"It was neglected because of the lack of governance and the ability to articulate maintenance," he adds. One of the towers burned down in 2004 and remains practically the same as it was after the flames.
