#STEEMGIGS: (TIL(Today I Learned)) — How To Create Website Using WordPress

Sometimes, the only reason why we learn is not necessarily because we want to learn, but because we have a project to execute with such knowledge. This is true in my case.

Let Me Share My Story.

I bought a domain name kowaste.com in 2017, with intention to blog about my new adventure, write about needs to save our world through environmental protection. I learned about recycling by doing apprenticeship in a plastic recycling company. So it would be nice if I become environmentalist through my website, I felt the urge to share beautiful pieces of information with my audience around the world.

I have no money to enroll for WordPress training, the only option that I had was video tutorials. I downloaded full tutorial from Udemy.com and I began to learn.

I learned all these is to learn about creating a website using WordPress, then I proceeded to buying domain name parked with www.whogohost.com, a local WHOIS service provider in Nigeria. I didn't stop here, I paid for one year hosting plan too. I am still laughing at myself as I am writing this post. How can poor me pay for all these services without using them? Simply put; I lacked the right motivation to carry on.

Recently, I read about @steempress and how they have developed a WordPress plugin that allows users to post to steemit blockchain through self hosted WordPress website. I instantly saw it as an opportunity to relearn what I have learned in the past, but which procrastination and lack of motivation made me forget. It was a great reason to reignite my passion towards learning new things.

Till-Today-I-Learned how to create website using WordPress.

Having paid for hosting plan, I started by installing latest version of WordPress on online server. And I began to shape the website by working on the admin panel, it took me several hours to master how things work at back end, but I grasped it!

I was able to;

  • Post my first content
  • Added tags
  • Created new categories
  • New pages
  • Improve Security
  • Work on widgets

Hian! Widgets consumed hell out my time, it seems like a very important part of website design on CMS like WordPress. But it was worth the time anyway.

Today I learned another way of taking screenshot from Oppo android phone - tap the screen with your 3 fingers and pull down. 😅There are 3 ways. The other two is pressing the low/high volume button and the power button at a time. On my other android phone only 'low volume and power button' works.😅

I learned to use Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com long ago. 😊

I think you are tech savvy.
