Bitcoins now purchasable via Amex

Forget TenX, forget Monaco and all those new cards. American Express paired with Abra have now made buying Bitcoins with the AMEX possible. Currently only a selected few users are given the possibility to use their AMEX in this fashion until initial users safely complete purchases in Bitcoin. Once this pilot is complete other users will be allowed to use this functionality.

This news comes while VISA and Mastercard are working on their own block chain projects and are expected to publish their own cards soon.

The cost of the 'conventional' cards is relatively high though. Coin desk states that "users whose American Express purchase option is enabled today can now purchase up to $200 worth of bitcoin per day, and up to $1,000 of bitcoin per month for a 4 percent fee."
Maybe from that perspective Tenx and to a lesser extent Monaco still have a good chance.

Regardless of the cost structures of the individual cards, it seems to be just a matter of time before mass adoption of cryptocurrencies is a fact.
