The Game Is Afoot And It Is Rubbish?

Unless you've been hiding under a rock you will know that the Steem Monster practice games started for everyone last Sunday.

If you read my previous posts you will know that I hadn't gotten around to getting a team together.

I thought I'd just wing it and go with the splinter (team) that had my only legendary in it and that's the life team.

It was quite late by the time the game actually came online but I was determined to play before I went to bed.

Probably not the wisest move as I got whopped and went to bed feeling very, very despondent.

It wasn't so much the being beaten that made me miserable but the fact that I was being matched against teams that were unbeatable from the level I was playing at.

I'm playing level 1 and some of the teams had level 5 cards in or even worse, dragons.

I played 8 games and lost all of them apart from 1.

I was not a happy bunny!

😢 😢 😢 😢 😢

Fortunately, for me, I had a chat with @davemccoy on Monday who told me I'd just been unlucky and that it would take time for the algorithm to work itself out.

Without Dave's voice of reason I may well have given up before I began.

In fact, he wrote a great post about the 3 Key points us newbs need to be aware of now that the games have started.

Mismatches Are Normal, So Don't Fret (or Brag)

So, after a reality check and some very useful pointers about the order in which to place your cards I took a deep breath and started again, instead of just trying to wing it.

So, is Steem Monsters Really Rubbish?

Well that would have to be a "no".

Having adjusted my teams, rather than trying to wing it, Day 2 saw me play 10 games.

Of those I won 8 and lost 2. My losses were to teams that were playing with higher level cards so that was more like it. 😁

It still hurts to be mismatched by I'm trying to learn to take it in my stride.
