InBetween 2 Premiere - Supernatural Story Series - Chapter 1
C H A P T E R | 1
“Help!” I screamed. Voices chanted all around me. Hands fumbled around and pressed firmly over my mouth. I struggled to move. Scratchy rope bound my hands and legs. I was tied up and blind folded, lying on a hard, rough surface. I couldn’t see a thing - the blindfold was tied so tight I felt like I was getting a headache from it. I heard the chanting that surrounded me subside. I felt empty inside. The hands that silenced me left my lips. Goosebumps formed on my skin as I realized what had just happened. I called out for Thomas, but heard nothing. I shook. “Thomas!” I screamed. Tears started forming in my eyes.
“It’s ok. You’re safe now.”
The blindfold was loosened and lifted from my face. A man in a black suit stood above me. I lay my head to the side and saw a cross resting on the table next to me.
“Thomas!” I cried. I looked up at the man angrily. “What d-did you do!” I demanded.
“You were possessed,” said the man.
I cried. I wanted to scream at him, but the sadness was overwhelming. I was stuck in between two worlds – each with their own set of rules and beliefs. I wanted to explain myself to him but knew he wouldn’t understand. He would only think I was crazy. I hate that feeling – needing to conform to someone else’s beliefs to be considered sane.
I sat still for a minute, took a deep breath and collected myself. I calmly looked up at the man. “Can you please untie me.”
The man walked over and untied the ropes that bound me to the table top. I picked up the blindfold and wiped the tears from my eyes. I just need to get out of here, I thought.
“Thank you for your…help,” I said hesitantly. I didn’t mean a word of it.
“You’re welcome – are you sure you are going to be ok?”
My heart was ripped in two. I looked up at him, and with as much sincerity that I could display said “Yeah, I’m fine.”
The man walked me to the door. I forced a smile for him and left. I looked behind me to see him watching me through the large picture window. I waved. I wanted to run home, but didn’t want to look suspicious, so I slowly walked down the sidewalk.
I turned around a corner and looked behind me to see the house disappear from view. As soon as I was out of sight, emotions hit me full force, and I broke out running. The wind swept softly across my face. Tears began to run down my cheeks as I thought about Thomas, and how the exorcism had taken him away from me. My heart hurt just thinking about it. I was worried. I didn’t know what happened to him. I thought harder about the day, confused how the exorcism even happened. I never would have wanted it – I knew I never asked for it – and the scary part was - I couldn’t remember how I even got there.
