COMIC BOOKS COMMUNITY...

in COMIC BOOKS fan/pro6 years ago (edited)

or should it be comic "book" community? not "books"
whatever, you get the idea.
I'm not going to lie to you and tell you I completely understand what communities are...but I do know comic books. And I know a lot of us on here do, and I know we need to push that to the forefront lest new people coming to steemit think this is just a blackhole of crypto nerds rambling on about blockchains.
On a site the current size of steemit, I'd say there is just about enough of use to make a good dent.

You like comics? review comics? run a store? make comics? want to make comics? Wanna talk about one you just read...maybe you sketched out batman on a napkin, maybe you drew an entire series for Marvel comics, maybe you have questions about them, here's our "community"...let's make the most of it, yeah?

as for who the f*ck I am (in case you don't know yet)

I'm a comic book writer and illustrator.

Instead of barfing up a long winded BIO...and seeing as how this is a post in a comic book community, how's about I just post a buncha my work to kick things off?

FIRST...some covers (some have the logos, some don't...I'm just grabbing the images I have handy)

These first two were for the recent relaunch of The Tick

These two were for Valiant Entertainments comic book line!

Here's one for AIW wrestling program that was all laid out like a comic book ( that counts, right?)

and of course...my own...multi award nominated...translated into three languages...dark humor cult favorite...

and here's some single page stories I did for Mad Magazine...

and...yeah...so, that's me.

But look, this is about comics...so whatever... post whatever you'd like related to the subject via this community. Together we are...many? uhm...one in all in? I dunno...you get the idea. Join the community! or is it subscribe to the community?...I don't know the terminology, just get on the trolley, yeah?

If one of you knows how this "community" thing works or how we can get the most use out of it...feel free to let me/us know. Can there be more than on "admin"? I can be the only one, or there can be a bunch of admins...I don't really care, I'm just looking for us to grow on here.

Later.

UPDATE-ISH
uhm...I guess if you go up to the headline there and click on "comic books fan/pros" that takes you to a screen where you then click "join" which I am not entirely sure what that does...I assume it adds it to your feed or let's you post via the group...

Awesome! Glad to be one of the first members... I think right now it makes sense to have a pretty broad singular community due to the small userbase, but eventually I'm sure there will be a lot more specific branch off communities. I was planning on setting something up myself but ya beat me to it! Perhaps I'll be competition in the future...

Anyway, I know a bit about communities but not as an owner/moderator. I've just played around a bit in beta. The big difference is in content sorting. You can now post into a community without it being posted into your actual "blog." I think that's great for interaction as now it's more reasonable to pop into a community to pose a question or start a conversation that you might not have thrown into the wild as a "post."

beta.steempeak.com actually has communities looking sweet! And they're pioneering some features that I love! There's a cross posting feature that's similar to a "resteem with comment" idea I've clamored for for years! (I clamor pretty quietly though...)

Basically you can share a post into a community. I've gotta play around but it looks like it can be yours or someone elses, and it can even be past payout. This creates a new post showcasing the post you shared, and that original author gets 90% of the rewards, the sharer gets 5%, and the community gets 5%! Now posts past 7 days can keep earning if they keep getting shared around! YAY!

There probably a dozen of us who could set this up and it's be just fine...but I didn't want to wait around and have some bot or numbskull start one. and have up playing catch up or having to get people to look around that one in order to see ours ( which would actually serve the expressed purpose).
being able to repost older stuff is pretty sweet indeed.
I noticed a lot of changes today that are actually good and stuff I bitched that steemit needed since I fuggin got here.
anyhoo...can there be only one admin on this or what? not that the admin seems to need to do anything after forking out the 3steem, haha

I have no idea on the admin stuff, probably the reason I most want to start up a sub/niche community too, just to play around and experience the owner backend. On SteemPeak I noticed the actual community owner is another account... did the setup process give you keys to a new account as well?

@midlet has setup his OnChainArt community nicely, has a couple moderators appointed, etc. so he might be a good person to rope in here for any tips or insights from the get go. I also hope @blewitt swings by and is game for diving in as well!

Owner is the hive-xxxx account and can do whatever. There can be multiple admins and admins can set other admins and mods, mute people or posts. Mods can mute stuff, and that's it.

I was wondering if you had seen that :)

Just in the past couple hours! I'd seen you sharing some items but I hadn't explored the SteemPeak beta to really see how it worked... I was shocked and elated! 😁

I am in!

One thing I just noticed in trying to search for the community on the Steemit interface, is that it didn’t show up when I searched “comics,” since it’s just doing a literal read of the title & about section... it doesn't seem to reach into the description. I’d try to include “comics” in the about area and not just “comic books”, as well as some other relevant search terms. I think for simplicity the fan/pro could be shifted into the about area too. (Can that title be changed after creation?)

Comic Books

A place for comics fans and professionals; artists, writers, collectors, readers, reviewers, and retailers to celebrate and explore the world of sequential art!

A rough draft of me “keyword cramming” the searchable text area a bit...

all good points, however at this stage the fight is on a different front...think bigger than that. Let's be honest...anyone who bothers to search for comics is going to find you or me and this group at some point anyway, that is just getting pieces of the nitch. what the goal is, is to be on the TOP of the trending list of the PLATFORM... to get people who would not have even looked in the first place.
communities is brand new...the "trending" communities at this point range from only having a couple hundred subscribers to only 50 subscribers.
We get comic books on the top early, and it will stay there and people who come here (steemit) will see there is normal human entertainment value on here ...but if it gets burred it'll be a giant unending slog to try to get that same ground.
knowwhatImean

This is great! I am not really familiar with the community aspect of Steemit yet, but hey this is the prefect way to figure it out now!

right? I saw that they changed the frontpage of my steemit and communities are listed..and looked at the list...and yawned the biggest yawn. then said, wtf isn't there a comic book community, somebody should be setting that up?! Then I said "oh fuck...that could be me I guess"

Thanks a bunch!

I like the Tooth Fairy comic. =)

ha! thanks, it's a simple gag but effective ;P

I notice you have the #Steempress tag. Is there a way to post from a blog using Steempress into a Community post?

Hey! wel..that shows you how little I still know about steemit, I thought steempress was just a phrase/category. so...I don't know.

I do know that whatever you post on the community, you can resteem onto your personal page and kind of get twice the mileage

Yeah, I just noticed that a post in the community doesn't show up in my regular feed.
