I joined steem a little over a year ago, and as much brains, hard work, and skill as it must have took to make this place...it is been unfortunately balanced out by a staggering lack of understanding and unwillingness to learn how to ATTRACT USERS.
STEEM has an advantage over every other cryptocurrency in that it is connected to a social media platform...SO....and I am shouting this right now...YOU GROW THE PLATFORM AND STEEM WILL GROW. If you DON'T grow the platform then steem is just one of several hundred other cryptocurrencies that for all intents and purposes are all basically the same- functional.
Listen to me now anyone involved with Steem inc...SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS GROW OR DON'T BASED ON THE CONTENT/PEOPLE THAT CAN BE INTERACTED WITH ON THEM.

They started "featured posts" a while ago and I thought to myself "That kinda sucks, I came on here because there was no playing of favorites...on the other hand, if they could show off some of the great content, that's good for everyone"
Are they using "featured posts" to show off great content? NOPE. Every time I look, it's some fucking bullshit about how the platform has added this or that, or is going to do this or that, or some interview with some crypto nerd about what they helped do to the platform...
NO ONE GIVES A FUCK. and by "no one" I mean , as in no casual user or lord forbid someone who just happened to find steemit and is considering joining.
TRY....try to put yourself in the mind of the average person on the internet, the average social media user. IS THIS...
GOING TO GET THEM TO GIVE A FUCK ABOUT EVER....EVER USING THIS SITE????

You COULD be doing yourself and all of us a favor by FEATURING REALLY GREAT CONTENT. So the average internet user sees some they find entertaining...so they STAY and find MORE and start using steem.
HOW IS THIS POSSIBILITY ELUDING YOU?
These "featured posts" are doing more harm than good because...
1- it makes it look like a site that specifically caters to crypto nerds. I have news for you, you can't compete or grow by only getting crypto nerds here. In fact, I'd say you pretty much have every crypto nerd you're gonna get by now.
2-Every post up there about how you're going to grow this site is...demoralizing. Because they are all rambling evidence that you have no idea how to do so. I recall one that was titled "how we are going to upload the masses to steemit"...no where in that blog was any plan to GET THE MASSES HERE. Every week there's a featured blog that screams out evidence that they do not understand the very power of the thing the created.
3-It sure doesn't make it seem like they GAF about helping any of us, now does it? any given day I can find more really interesting, entertaining, and well produced blogs than my 10 vote limit will allow...HOW ARE THEY NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING BETTER TO FEATURE??? ARE THEY BOTHERING TO LOOK? ...or , as I suspect...are they so unsuited to the task of growing a crowd that they don't know they should be looking?
Someone comes here, from the internet wilderness and sees "featured posts" they are assuming that those are the best of the best...and they see shit like this???

So the 50 out of the 200 people who bothered to read it were treated to ( to their minds) a bunch of gobldy gook about some not very new anymore social media platform.
You people who made this site...you are not entertainers...so this is something you do not understand, but need to- NO ONE GIVES A FUCK WHO YOU ARE, OR HOW HARD YOU WORKED OR ABOUT ANY BEHIND THE SCENES BULLSHIT. ALL they should have been doing on medium was going there and saying "steemit is fun and full of cool content providers like these people (then show off some great content) than invite people to join and make content of their own.
that was all they had to to, that is all they have to do, that is all they should be doing...and anything that is off of that simple game plan is a waist of time and effort., AND does more harm than good. Because after reading their blog on medium (thinking as a regular internet user) I had zero interest in going there.
Go read their blog there...go one...read it as a run of the mill social media user and tell me your eyes don't glaze over

@steem.marketing you need to get some help. You have en entire platform full of indy creators who know EXACTLY how to grow from nothing, how to fight and win a David vs Goliath battle, now how to attract a crowd, know how to cause a stir. It is a specific sill set, one that take years of trial and error to learn, just like the skill sets you do have. GO FIND SOME HELP.

I totally agree with you and it's really frustrating, because what you're saying is simple but true. There are some simple "rules" in the marketing fields, really simple and I can't think they don't know them, so I think the road in their minds is something different. Yes, now we have some different tribes and this is good, but as an old steemian I'd like to see some cozy signs to attract new people and to retain old people also in the "original" steemit. It's frustrating and sad.

You are the sort of content I would have liked to know about, but instead my feed is full of utter crap from dickheads whose posts I don't want to see - "featured posts"
Which is why I stopped using the platform.
I reckon it is useful to look past rhetoric to acts to exercise due diligence concerning intent. It is glaringly obvious that HF21 was not intended to create an environment that would attract new users. There are metrics useful to reveal why people come here, and merely a cursory glance at those metrics contrasted with HF21 reveals that all the aspects of HF21 are diametrically opposed to motivating new users, and keeping extant users here.
HF21 is the Steemkiller. It is that way on purpose. This is apparent from an objective consideration of it's impact on users, and completely disregarding rhetoric. Lying liars lie. Actions never do. We'll see how competent the Steemkillers are by observing how quickly Steem dies. I note that the rhetoric was largely successful in enabling the HF21 to be undertaken without widespread dissent. A few voices in the wilderness spoke out against it, but by and large the rhetoric was successful, and this does not indicate it was spewed from amateurs, but from skilled propagandists.
When words and actions are mutually exclusive, believe the actions, and disregard the words.

Completely agree with you. All the technical things work perfectly, webpage, wallet, transactions. But the tools for building a valid culture in the community is completely amateurish.
