Judge for a body painting contest.

Hello to all dear friends and welcome back to my blog.

Today I give up traditional painting with canvas brushes and watercolors and share with you a very fun experience that happened to me a few months ago.

Have you ever painted on a human body?

Well I assure you it is very complicated, especially in applying the colors on the skin.

Body painting is an ancient custom of almost all the peoples of the Earth.

our ancestors used it for propitiatory, religious, apotropaic rituals and sometimes to protect themselves from annoying insects with a layer of color.

Historians and anthropologists almost all agree that Australian Aborigines were the first to use body painting 60,000 years ago.

I wrote an in-depth article on Aboriginal art and if you want here is the link.

The colors had their own meaning, and I summarize them:
The red was equivalent to courage, even for the blood lost in battle, the warmth and passion.

  • Black is a meaning of mystery associated with darkness and night.

  • White, like the purity of the clouds.

  • Blue was the color of the sky, seas and rivers, it represented calm and tranquility.

  • Purple for sovereigns and important people, the color of superiority.

  • Yellow was intelligence and hope, especially of young people.

  • Gray, the color of the beard, wisdom, dignity and knowledge of the elderly.

But the real reason for talking about body painting is that I was involved as a judge in a competition.

I asked the organizing committee to be able to attend the stages of the making of the paintings, it was very interesting.

Although I guarantee you that during my observation during the creative work of the artists I tried to paint.

The result was disgusting!

It is very difficult to create works of art on a human body and especially with colors and other devilries: makeup cosmetics, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick and glitter additions.

Here are some tools for body painting:

  • Water colors
  • Brush set
  • Black mascara and eye liner, black pencil and black eyeshadow
  • White pencil and white eyeshadow
  • Sponges
  • cosmetic make-up: primer, eye shadows, foundation, natural lip gloss.

Do you think I only use watercolors and water!

All these products and articles have bewildered me, because of their difficulty in applying colors to the skin.

An extremely difficult painting technique because the color cannot be superimposed several times, if you paint three times on the same color the brush removes it.

Body painting as a very ancient practice in recent years has become an art promoted by many national and international competitions.

I leave you some nice pictures and send you a huge hug.

Armando.

https://steemit.com/art/@armandosodano/aboriginal-art-video-arte-aborigena

  • Mascara nero e eye liner, matita nera e ombretto nero
  • Matita bianca e ombretto bianco
  • Spugnette
  • make-up cosmetica: primer, ombretti, fondotinta, lip gloss naturale.

Armando.

Question: Do you have pictures of the winners of this contest?

No because I have lost all the files stored on the pen drive. But the winner is the girl who is in the first photo of the post. Thank you for your interest.
