If you are holding any amount of bitcoin on a particular exchange or wallet, you would certainly want to have the ability to see the buy and sell rates of that particular exchange or wallet at any given moment. These rates are particularly useful to know the equivalent amount in Peso (or your currency of choice), and in effect to know your holding’s purchasing power. Also, for the day trader, it is a very good indicator on whether to acquire, dispose, or just hold your bitcoins.

Abra, a bitcoin wallet that can hold both bitcoin and paper currency (aka “fiat”), provides a way to see the buy and sell rates. The buy rate is prominently displayed in the bitcoin wallet, but the sell rate is a little bit trickier to find out.

Buy Rate

The buy rate is what you use when you are exchanging your paper currency to bitcoin. Abra’s buy rate is pretty hard to miss, as it is just below your bitcoin balance.

Sell Rate

The sell rate is what you use when you are exchanging your bitcoin to your paper currency counterpart. Unfortunately though, you can only see the sell rate if you have any amount in your bitcoin wallet. If your bitcoin wallet is empty, tough luck.

Click “Exchange”. In “Exchange from”, choose Bitcoin

In “Exchange to”, choose your currency of choice (I choose Philippine Peso)

You can see the Sell Rate at the “Rate” field. At this point, you do NOT need to proceed, and just hit “Back” to cancel the conversion.
