Opening Portals To Understanding

Opening another frequency portal with my modular synthesizer and Elektron machinedrum.

This composition is a live improvised performance recorded live in one take. I used to make traditional Hip Hop beats circa 1990's and I feel composers should always incorporate our sonic roots into the music we make. This
is one of the many reasons why you'll hear me make all kinds of music in many different genres and styles because I grew in a household that exposed me to Jazz, Classical, Funk, Soul, Disco and Rock.

That brings me back to this piece... the foundation is a dreamy ambient feel that reminded me of summer nights at Venice Beach in the 90's. This was a time where there was still a lot of gang activity, Crips, Vatos, and Bikers. The ambient sounds represent the waves of the ocean and the feel of a summer nights breeze, the dissonant elements represent the danger that was present reminding you not to relax too much. The beat is the pulse of the city, it's the rhythm of the concrete jungle we had to navigate through just to enjoy a day of sunshine, sand and pretty girls as teens growing up in Los Angeles.

The inner city produces a vast array of artist, musicians, innovators, etc. that don't get coverage in popular media and often don't get recognition in our own communities when you go against the grain. I'm just here to share my story through my art and creativity to show the world a different perspective of the inner city.
