Scincella🦎,The Ground Skink🦎,The Mother & The Baby...(Could be either of the Parent!!! ) Lost & Found in The Garden!

in #nature6 years ago (edited)

It was a wonderful day, yesterday and suddenly I realized, there was something in the lid of the bucket, that was probably left in the garden for whatever reasons...definitely not as a frisbee...because...big in size...anyways...so when I saw the lid, I found a creature In it...swirling round and round...perhaps desperate to come out of it. The lid being plastic was not letting the creature hold the grip and let it be free. I wonder, how did the creature jumped in the lid and then the struggle to free itself, started, am not sure, how long it was in there...may be couple of hours!!!

I was curious to find about it and got to know, it is called "The Ground Skink" which is a type of "lizard" and It is usually "tan" or "reddish-brown" in colour & between 3 to 6 inches, long, some grow little bigger in size.

Interestingly, "The Ground Skinks" are one of the smallest reptiles in the United States. Though they are found world-over. The Ground Skink also called as, scientifically/zoologically, Scincella, with over more than 35 species. It was absolutely worth knowing that these originated roughly 160 to 170 million years ago and still going strong. How amazing is that ! Isn't it!!! :)

So, here are some captures, of The Ground Skink, while, it was roaming around in the lid, finding the way out!!!

Surprisingly, after sometime, wonder in which and from which crevice, this little baby too, came out...I believe it was searching from its Mother, who was trapped in the lid and the little skink was putting all the efforts to move and find, but it was indeed, proving to be a very difficult exercise, I could see that very well. Its red tail is yet to fully grow and I wonder, whether it was able to see around or was just so little and not able to see...Not to sure !!!

After taking these shots, I made them both hide in the garden, once again!!!

Here are these captures of the baby skink and am sure you all are going to love them!

Blogging…Its Charm & The Reality!!!
Blogging…seems so much fun…!!! Isn’t it! Yes! Ofcourse…it is!...but…trust you me…Blogging is not all that easy…though it seems pretty interesting to get engaged with lot of people on the web. There must be a million sites involved in blogging and all…but I always question how many of them actually produce original quality content that is really beneficial or purposeful… and for some it’s the same content, slightly modified here and there…which is indeed a sad state of affairs!!!
The only thing comes to my mind is Charles Darwin’s Theory which will remain applicable till there is life on Earth!!!

Its a very dangerous animal.
Keep sharing please.
Thanks

Not really...just like a lizard...though its looks are pretty deadly !!! :)
Thank you so much! @khasif.imran

How sweet is that little baby skink? Interesting that they have the little red markings on their tail. I'm not too familiar with them as we do not have them, to my knowledge, in this part of the United States.

Isn't nature interesting? The bond of a mother and baby is not lost on them. I still wonder how that skink got caught going round and round in the lid to begin with. He probably wandered in with no thoughts of an Escape Route.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful post and video. I hope you have a most wonderful day and as always it's great to see you.

Tip!

Hey!!! Denise, hope you are doing great.😊 Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, really really appreciate that kind gesture. 😊😊😊...infact, couldn't ask for more !!! :) :)
Yes, this post and video...just happened...I just couldn't ignore...the struggle of skink and the little baby skink...I was concerned...worried and then I realized...they both need a bit of help from me...which I duly did lend...hope they must be safe somewhere in the garden...where I let them go safely & hide !!!

So very glad and feeling so G O O D to see you, here!!! :) :) Truly Obliged !!!
Much Love!.😊

Do they need to stay in water, like a frog or can they survive in dry climates?

No they are not aquatic...they are just like lizards... though they stay & live more on ground and in crevices.
Thank you so much. @sunrisela That was indeed an interesting query. :) :)

How long do they live? Are they a good pet to take care of?

The animal below I often see it, but the above I have never seen, the above is very beautiful, I like.

Thank you so much !!! :) @markzuk Absolutely appreciate that! :) :)

I have another "SPECIES" like it. may be the same in the order or class. maybe you will be interested to visit our research station. many other species of flora fauna such as orangutans, bears, and tigers will be found in the wild in the "SORAYA" research station.

We have skinks in California too. I can't remember the type though its been so long. Might have been an adult western skink. Those are some cool photos. Did it hiss at you like a snake? The ones at my old house did.

Really appreciate that !!! @bluefoxy :) :) Thank you so much.
Glad you shared that!
