happy. Maybe sad. Mostly wrong

This absurdity continues in the state's place: the proximity of Independence Day to Memorial Day is a violation of the dignity of the state

The Fallen. How much does a pack of coal cost?

Today I saw a cute child sitting in the small plastic compartment inside the cart (which is dangerous and unsafe). On his head was a decorated crown with a small Israeli flag, indicating that he returned from the garden with a lot of mood for Independence Day, or maybe not. Memorial day, perhaps in the garden, they also emphasized Memorial Day and its importance, and the accessories were acquired by the parents within the author?

Regardless of the answer to the question, this is the bottom line of Israel's Memorial Day - a day of general rehearsal for a big celebration. Everyone knows this feeling that comes one day before Rosh Hashana, the day before Sukkot, the day before Seder - joy, festivity that ripens and expresses itself in plans and arrangements. Memorial Day for Israel's fallen soldiers should not be a day like this, even if it is thanks to those who fall that we have a state.

In these seconds, they are working energetically all over the country, setting up stages, lighting poles and amplification systems, placing on the roofs of mortars with magnificent fireworks. Agents of singers and other artists close the last edges for the evening of the busiest shows of the year. Ballers buy tickets for parties at an early sale or are still reviewing the options and have trouble choosing which one to go to. The siren in memory of the fallen will be only a small distraction in a continuum of thought devoted to happy, joyful celebration. Those people are not really to blame for this, God forbid, surely and certainly if it is their livelihood, this is a situation of absurdity forced upon them and must change.

From the high school, the subject bothers me, from the moment I realized that the date is elective (as opposed to Independence Day that took place on a precise and immovable date), I do not think that this juxtaposition strengthens the memory of the fallen. I do not come from a bereaved family, and I never knew anyone who was killed in the hostilities. I just think that the situation is absurd and I want to be part of it. For example, on the eve of Independence I intend to broadcast a special machine on my radio station, but in the status line of the site I decided that during Memorial Day I will not mention it, even though I have done so for the last five days.

If this day was set for one of the three months between Rosh Hashanah and Hanukkah, a period without holidays and festivals, would the memory of the fallen be impaired? Would not we know that because of them we have a state?

Sort:

You make a very good point, one that I have also considered. I understand the juxtaposition of Yom HaZicharon and YomAztmaut but I think a reorganization of memorial days is in order. Yom HaShoah is also in the wrong place in an otherwise festive month and should be at the same time as Tisha B’Av which is the time all calamities to the Jewish people are mourned.
