Cleanup In The Greenhouse, Mid Feburary Powerup

in Steemit-Garden2 years ago

Hello, steemians and garden lovers!

Two weeks ago, I wrote a post about my greenhouse in the dead of winter and how messy it was from last fall. You can find that post here if you wish to read it.

Several days ago, we had a bit of a break from the cold winter weather, the temperature got up above freezing and the sun was shining. I had to go outside to fill the bird feeders, so I decided to check the greenhouse to see if it warmed up with the weather. It was pretty nice in the greenhouse, for winter, so I decided to do some cleaning up of the planting area.
This is how it looked before I started on it.

I had to move the bicycles out of the way to be able to get to the big pots to clean them out. I took out all of the remaining plants and picked up the frozen tomatoes so they wouldn't rot when spring comes. It wasn't too much work because the plants were all dried up and brittle.
When I was done, this is what it looked like.

I put all the plants into a plastic tote to make it easier to carry it all out of the greenhouse. I put all the tomatoes into a container so there wouldn't be as much of a mess. I didn't pull the roots out of the big pots because the dirt is frozen. That will have to wait until spring when the pots thaw out. The white pipe is my irrigation pipe for the pots in the summer. The marigold plants are full of seeds, but I already have so many seeds from last year that I didn't save them.

I had left a couple of my small succulent plants out in the greenhouse for the winter to see how they would do in the cold. These plants are supposed to be cold hardy, so I wanted to see if they would survive. I have a big pot full of these in the house, so I wasn't too worried about these little plants. They seem to be doing well so far.

The plants are sitting on top of a cement block wall that I built in the greenhouse and painted black several years ago. This wall is a heat collector for the greenhouse. When the sun shines into the greenhouse, the black paint helps the blocks absorb heat from the sun. In the summer, I put all my succulents out in the greenhouse on top of the wall for more sun exposure. I usually cover the the wall in the summer to block the sun from heating the blocks because it already gets hot in the greenhouse in the summer.

I decided to do my next power up now instead of waiting until the end of the month because I have enough for a pretty decent power up. I had 404.971 steem waiting to be powered up. I've been powering up all of my steem for several months and I intend to keep doing that because I'm trying to get my account up to 5000 SP.

After the power up, my page looks like this.

This latest power up puts me at almost 3000 SP, so I'm slowly getting closer to my goal.

That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
