Happiness is a Quiet Guest
Happiness is a quiet guest. She doesn't blast through the front doors and announce her presence. She doesn't wave her arms and shout "Here I am! I'm here to stay!" She doesn't stomp her feet or shuffle about my house like anger or depression.
Happiness waits patiently at the door to be let in, checks her watch a time or two before politely entering and making herself at home. Happiness sometimes tiptoes in while I'm too preoccupied to notice.
I wasn't aware of happiness quietly sipping tea on my sofa, flipping through the picture books on my coffee table while I was chasing anxiety around looking for my checkbook. It's ok. I didn't mind and neither did she.
Happiness rarely gets up and leaves without saying goodbye, she just waits for me to have a quiet moment. She doesn't want to be rude and interrupt the conversation that depression is dominating, he has been through a lot and needs to vent.
If I can manage to tuck my other guests in or put them to work or even, ehem, expel them, happiness and I may finally get a chance to catch up.
Happiness is one of those good friends where we can just about pick up where we left off no matter how much time has passed between us. She is gracious and forgiving. She can sneak in when I'm not paying attention because she knows she is always welcome.
I'm thinking about asking her to move in.

Really if you wait politely for happiness then only will it come to you...
