A new phase!
I am entering a new phase and I am pretty excited about it.
A while ago, I wrote about starting up a framing company and building homes. I did that. It worked out pretty good, but the snow flew early in Alberta and I did not want to endure another 6 month winter working outside. The work also slowed down a lot. I told my business partners that I would bow out for the winter and see where things are at in the spring.
They know that I might not ever come back.
Right now I am working for people. It is a beautiful thing. They are grateful for my expertise and help, they pay me in cash and there seems to be a lot of demand for a guy that can do as much as I can in the construction world. I have done enough now that even if I haven't done the work, I know I can figure it out.
Here is the job that I am working on now. It is for a lady who bought a house that she can barely afford. She wanted it because it was a perfect house for a basement suite. She wants the suite ready ASAP so that she can get a renter in there. With a renter in there, she will have no problem paying the bills.
She bought used cabinets online and has us custom build them and fit them into her oddly shaped kitchen. With a bit of effort, we got them in and looking pretty good. We had to really mess with 3 of the cabinets to get them to fit.
We got wood countertops and custom made the tops and the backsplash. Everything is just dry fit right now. We still need to put a toes kick on and do a few finishing touches... but it looks pretty close to done.
We showed her the cabinets installed and she was near tears. You don't get that kind of job satisfaction framing for a homebuilder.
Wow now I know who to call someday lol! I love it!
That kitchen will be done for about $3000 - $4000 cheaper than a new one professionally installed... It is mind blowing. I will do renovation work for Steem too ;)
Amazing, this is the best!
This is awesome, seems you’ve found something that has some human satisfaction to it beyond simply paying the bills!
I realize how much that was missing... I am really feeling a lot better about things, and it has only been a week!
Top job mate.
Thanks!
