Hardfork 19 We Have A Problem!

So Hardfork 19 was implemented yesterday and everyone including myself were jumping for joy. Our past articles multiplied in price and our upvotes were worth more.....but we have a problem.

Everyone's vote grew more then they expected, I for one received a $93 upvote yesterday.

THE PROBLEM

Now here's the problem with the hardfork, if a Steemian with an upvote worth $93 or more went and wrote 10 comments a day and upvoted each one of their own comments with a 100% full power $93 upvote, then everyday that person would be earning $930 from a few minutes work. That's $6510 a week.

Why would such a person capable of earning this be bothered writing an article that takes time, instead just find random posts, write a "nice post" comment upvote and boom $930 a day!

And this is the problem, today I look down my feed and the vast majority of posts, about 90% of them have 1 vote on them.

This is a major problem because this means all the newbies are gonna leave and it will completely discourage new users coming in.
This is the opposite of what the hardfork was supposed to achieve.

THE SOLUTION

Remove self upvoting completely, I know many feel they deserve to upvote their own work but it's gonna kill Steemit.

Removing self upvoting will then make each steemian go out there and find work to upvote creating a far far better Steemit.

The sooner the better I think.

Problem?

😂 It's everything I said was wrong but it made me laugh

I have a feeling everyone is gonna have a lot of great times on this platform for years!

I've no doubt in the platform and i'm guessing things will even out, I guess time will tell, but I have been noticing a big decline in people being upvoted but then again that could be because everyone destroyed their voting power yesterday!

Yeah, I'm still learning how to balance mine out. I use to go 100 percent power on everything now giving a little less to others and earning a little dinner for myself tonight :)

Yeah I did have fun with my larger vote yesterday and now I have to let it recharge, but I think it'll be 25% votes in general from me which still give a lot more then i used to give at 100% so win win for everyone

Yeah, seems to be about 24 hours to recharge from around 75%. Think I'm around that right now, so have to chill

As far as I know it's 20% per day, it takes 5 days to go from 0% to 100%

ignore this post, I have never read such nonsense.... I am surrprise this level of nonsense receive so much votes... what wrong with rewarding your own work... why everyone is watching what the other is earning, they made the investment they should be other to reap the reward... as a minnow I aspire to be like a whale one day with that kind of voting power.....

Alex makes some good points, but i did put a lot of cold hard cash into Steem because i believe in the project. I'm more of an Investor/Curator in the project than content producer. May change that in the future, but if you don't reward investors, then there aren't going to be investors period. It's a hard call how to handle all of this and there are others smarter than that will eventually figure it out, but I know i didn't have crap for voting power before, but have some now, so that's nice!

this was my response to his post "I totally disagree with your post, stop watching what people are earning, probably if you made the investment they make, then you would reap that kind of reward.... why people always try to shot those rewarding themselves for their labor, you have no clue what they had to sacrifice to make this investment in the platform. If you understand how the platform works, its the steem power that's tax to create the reward pool, so you should be thankful to guys that you see ended up with how much I don't care, because its their steem power that's tax to create to money that's paying this post.... one must strive to get on their level, the economics of this platform is base on the steem power of these folks, if you are concern, probably you should power up and reduce your voting power per post.... if i sound harsh then i apologize, hf19 could the best thing if folks power up because the reward pool would grow... probably you can do a post on the benefits of powering up with hf19 proceeds ... you get a bigger stake in the platform, you payout increase and the system can tax on a greater amount of steem power" can't have people spreading this level of nonsense

Have to say that it is nice to finally be rewarded for contributing to the platform, and even thought about buying "more" steem to put in, but want to wait to see how everything stabilized over the next two or three weeks. If everything seems ok, then I'll be investing more into the platform. Good times to come for all involved!

definitely man.....everyone should be rewarded for their investment, and don't feel guilty about it, reward yourself....I am using my proceeds an invest in more steem and steem power.... I just hope that price would stay low enough for the next week or so, so that I can buy as much as possible.... I have been doing all the steem giveaway on here, gold in your pocket

Or our self upvotes are capped at 25%. Comments that are self upvoted capped at 5%. That will force everyone to produce quality work, network within the community, and find others' quality posts for curation and comments to supplement their income.

Removing self upvoting is like asking newbies to leave steemit. Many of my posts have only 1 vote, and that's my own, I usually have to use minnow support to help myself out. Just because a few bad eggs might try to exploit the system, does not mean that self up voting should be removed completely. I for one have never upvoted my own comment.

I do hear that the system will stabilize after about a week, so hopefully this issue dies down as well. I'm more concerned that this new ,10 votes per day will lead to the creation of groups. People who only upvote each other, leaving newbies to the dust

But removing self upvoting would result in new users getting a bigger possibility of gaining upvote from other users instead of only getting one upvote from themselves worth probably a Cent or two.

Hmm, a cap could be introduced then, I do agree that self voting is essentially rewarding yourself for a job well(or not so well) done. I think a poll is in order. I'll put it up on twitter and steem here.

Good idea, a cap on upvoting yourself would be good so you can still reward yourself but you still have to upvote others to gain curation rewards

nice, looks like my VP is worth 0.08 sbd. . .. .
but that being implemented now is a pipe dream. . . . . except they do hardfork 19.1 or something

I get what you are saying with the creation of groups and it was something I was thinking about myself, but you could look at it another way if that type of behavior starts, and that would be to get your friends and family onto Steemit and all help each other out, that way you are guaranteed some upvotes.
It's not perfect by all means but just a thought.

o ya thats true, orrr. . . . . . . . . . alternate accounts start popping up like flies, and steemit turns into the world largest milking machine. . .

I have a hunch , that 1/8 of all steemit accounts are alts, i mean, most whales got em. . . . . .
crafty eh?

Interesting, if only we were here a lot earlier, we might be rich by now.
It's a tough one that's for sure but hopefully it gets sorted out, time will tell though.

indeed it will. If steemit survives 1 more year, guess who's going to be mini whales then :)
HInt: Its us, the second level early adopters.

of cause, the whales would be mega whales by then.

I wasn't aware of this and if this truly is the case then going by what you have said, I would have to agree.
It's a bit like giving yourself a 'like' on one of your own facebook posts for example. A right good old pat on the back!

It will destroy the place as I said you'd just upvote yourself 10 times a day and earn crazy money

If they took away the right to upvote yourself AND allowed ALL users the ability to use the upvote payout slider to adjust their vote payouts and not just Steemians with SP over 480 then we would see more votes. I think most of us are being cautious of upvoting because we want to reward the posts with true quality.

There is no point in attempting to stop self-upvoting. People will just delegate, circle-vote, or create new accounts. Only a few of the least "bad" actors would be stopped.

Don't forget that putting large amounts of money into this platform is part of what creates the market cap for the value of Steem. Putting $10,000s in to fund the project and everyone's cashouts deserves value, too.

i am completely agree with you and as i am not old enough on steemit but still i think we don`t need to vote our own post but then in the same way they select upvote option automatically to your post to get an upvote for yourself. My question is why they tick on upvote in beginning of every article automatically?

It was good before to get your post started but now I don't think it's needed

any good suggestions about increasing your reputation?

To increase your rep you need to gain more upvotes on your posts

ok got it but upvotes from those who have good repo and steem power or anyone?

Well the bigger the upvote the better

Or only remove it for comments but keep it for posts, since comments are a lot quicker and easier to write than posts

Whoops wrong place to reply!

Very good suggestion

I think we are quickly learning this. I need to stop voting for a bit to replenish. Then I will need to to think about what percentages to use.

I think 50 is a nice medium and just take it easy with the voting

I'm not very strong in technical moments, but I agree with you. It's just arithmetic ...

Well written, Alex! Indeed, the number of upvotes is decreasing although the rewards are huge compared to previous months. To be honest, there might be another issue with steem price once the new payouts will happen under the new rule. Many users could decide to sell, hence steem price could drop dramatically.

Very possible and something we all expect but the bigger rewards for smaller users with bring in a lot more users with it, plus if the price of steem drops a lot I think a lot of people will buy themselves into whalehood making the price rise again.

If you've been watching the trending page you know that this has been a problem among the whales since the beginning. The hardfork just gave the same ability, to a lesser degree, to more of us. If the ability to upvote the self is revoked we will simply fall into a pattern of the powerful agreeing to upvote each other, which will end much the same. I even wrote a parable about it 8 months ago.

One of the problems that I see is that those with money seem to think that their money is worth more than the time investment that the rest of us make. Frankly, I'm tired of working on a post for hours, using knowledge that I've gained over decades, and watching it sink into the past with a payout of $0.00.

Before the hardfork I was noticing that the more followers I gained, the fewer votes I garnered. It's good to finally be able to at least reward myself for what I've been investing for almost a year. If someone had come to me 10 months ago, and showed me my current balance, I'd have run away from Steemit and never looked back.

I hope my work has helped my dedicated core of followers in some way. I sometimes think I'm preaching to the choir, but I am now more impoverished than when I started, and without some respite from the payout failures, I cannot continue to contribute.

Yes I can see your point too, I think maybe also the problem with a large majority of posts getting very little upvote is everyone has drained their voting power and aren't upvoting up till it comes back up I think everything will iron itself out over time and carry on as always

It does seem that voting power is recharging at a fraction of the rate it was before. Is this part of the plan? I haven't read all of the particulars of the hardfork.

I didn't read anything about that either, I didn't think it affected the recharge rate
