In the mountain divisions of the German Wehrmacht, this gun model replaced the WW 1 gun generation.
Used by the light divisions of the mountain artillery regiments, it could be disassembled into eight parts suitable for transported by pack animals. For motorized towing, the NSU halftrack motorbike was used. Due to its moderate weight it was also suitable for air transport, for instance with a Ju-52.
This feature was used by the German mountain troops during the conquest of Crete. Until 1942, the gun was equipped with light metal wheels and solid rubber tires. To reduce weight it had no protective shield, As projectiles, amongst others, the 7.5 cm explosive round with a weight of 5.74 kg was used. The standard cartridge contained up to 4 loads and could be enhanced by special cartridge with on additional load.
