Government High School, Ilorin

Today I would like to pin this location on steem-atlas for the world to know this educational sector. And I hope this will benefit each and everyone of us.

This school is situated in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was established on the 22^nd of May 1967 by the first lawyer from Northern Nigeria. The school was founded as Ilorin College, but as time went on and the student population increased, it was later changed to Government High School.

They have produced important personalities, many of whom hold government positions. Government High School was established to impart knowledge to the students so that it can be useful to them in their academic career. The founder later handed over the school to the government to manage the affairs of the school, which is why it is referred to as a government-owned school.

I took these pictures when the students were on holiday for the Sallah break, so I did not have the opportunity to look inside. Behind the roundabout is the administrative block where the principal's office is situated. Although it was just renovated by the present administration, millions of naira were spent on the school.

The school has two sections: one for juniors and the other for seniors. They provide a conducive learning environment. Mosques are available for Muslim students to perform Zuhr prayers on the school premises before they leave the school. It is mandatory for all students to pray Jumu'ah prayer which normally hold on every Friday. There is also a food and nutrition department where interested students can join others to make delicious food.

The image above shows a borehole water system constructed by the school's alumni to provide affordable water for students. Those staying in the hostel and staff quarters can fetch water for their daily need. The students are well-trained. Successful candidates after the West Africa Examination can apply for admission to any Nigerian university of their choice. The classrooms are well-equipped and can accommodate a large number of students.

School directory board serve as the direction for the visitors who visit the school for the first time. This directory board cover everything including their toilet, football pitch as well as basketball court.
