Two strong ladies (unfinished)
I started this last Saturday, actually, but spent Sunday throwing up (I don't know what happened, but it was beyond awful) and Monday recovering. Tuesday I was tired and from Wednesday to Friday I felt sick again. Luckily, I'm feeling fine as of now, but I totally lost the inspiration to end this illustration.
I'm posting it anyways because, hey! I really liked how it was turning out.
So, who are they and why I drew them?
As I've mentioned before, I'm into rolaplaying and these two are two of my characters (obviously, it is the kind of roleplaying one borrows physicals appearances for; hence why the red-haired one resembles to our goddess and savior Pyrrha Nikos). They belong to the same story (I made like, five characters for that one because the creator let us be and I'm crazy, ok?) and coincidentally enough, they ended in the same group of friends. That's why I drew them together.
Now, from left to right I present to you: Shayla and Evelyn.
They both share a few traits: they're both mature, emphatic, righteous and wise on their own right. Both have charisma and leadership skills, though Shayla loathes it while Evelyn simply accepts it graciously, playing smart while not abusing of it. That is where the differences between them start, shaping their personalities and telling two sides of a coin.
Shayla has the girl-next-door type of charm, for which she's always in the center of everything one way or another. She has a golden heart, is patient and is one of the most hardworking people out there. The thing is, these qualities give off an incorrect image, the one of someone that is far from anyone's league. As result, Shayla is a weird mix of popular/outcast, because even if she is in good terms with everyone, her peers still feel intimidated by her or just downright assume things instead of just asking her.
Shayla loathes it, both being treated different and missing out on things she wants to take part of, just because they're adamant on putting her on a pedestal. She can't help but being so serious about certain things. Unlike most of her former classmates, she had dealt with some serious shit in middle school to help out a friend, and that incident marked her. Shayla realized she'd do anything to protect her friend (and she actually did, breaking the law though it was in self-defense) and that scared her.
Another thing that makes Shayla different is that even she follows dumb-teenager logic, because she ain't perfect and can't stress it enough. I.e: she's fixated on proving she can be fun when she enters high-school, borderline obsessed; however, Shay chills out in that regard when not all of her classmates misjudge her at first glance. She is also very self-conscious about her height, as Shayla was for years the tallest person in her class until high-school and people didn't stop pointing it out to her, which eventually made her feel very uncomfortable. She gets over this too, but it is a rather slow progress.
Evelyn is a little less complicated soul, optimistic and carefree. However, even if she is indeed a lighthearted spirit, Evelyn is the fartest from weak-willed. In fact, she is stronger than many in that sense.
From young age was used to prove herself to everyone, as she wasn't trusted due to the power she was born with- the power of bidding others to her will in the form of speaking commands. It was (somewhat) understandable why the others were wary of her though, being a princess and thus having a real chance of making politicians do as she wished. Ultimately, Evelyn was just a child and people were assholes, so she suffered unnecessarily due to fear based on things she wouldn't even dream to do.
The only ones who ever saw her without distrust in their eyes was her family. Anywhere else Evelyn went, she was quickly isolated. Did she cry and complain about that unjust treatment? Why, of course. Did she give up? Hardly.
Her kind heart (and stubbornness) eventually won people over. It took years, and she still wasn't everyone's favorite, but she at least made a change in her situation.
And for all these things, is that I named the illustration "Two strong ladies".
Wow, look at that rambling haha! I didn't expect to talk this much, but they're characters I'm fond of, so I shoul've seen it coming :P Anyhow, it's time for me to take my leave.
See you next time!
