Smolensk

Smolensk is one of the oldest Russian cities. The first mention in the annals of the city dates back to 863. In the history of Russia, Smolensk is described as a "shield city" and a "key city" that for many centuries served as a reliable defense of Moscow, protecting the capital from encroachments by enemy troops.

Smolensk meets by its embankment, consisting of three levels, a total area of 13 thousand square meters. There are benches for rest, flowerbeds, a playground for children everywhere. From the shore you can see the Zadneprovsky district.

Smolensk fortress wall (Smolensk Kremlin) was built in 1595-1602. Now you can see only the remaining fragments of the walls and several towers of the Smolensk Kremlin. This unusual structure originally had six-kilometer walls and 38 towers, and none of the towers was repeated in its design and was the only one of its kind.

Monument to grateful Russia to the heroes of 1812 is in the center of the Memory Square of Heroes. It symbolizes the inaccessibility of Russia, which in 1812 defended the armies of Barclay de Tolly and Bagration, united at Smolensk. The monument is a large rock, at the top of which two large eagles protect the nest, to which a gall to sneak along the rock in armor and with a sword in hand.
