ADSactly Game Review - For Honor
For Honor
Welcome back fellow Steemians, it's that time of the week again, time for your weekly game review fix.
Once again we are transported back to an age long forgotten, thanks to the marvel that is video games, something that was not really all that possible a few years ago. I can't even begin to imagine what games are going to look like in the next twenty years or more. For Honor is an action fighting game set during a medieval, post-apocalypse fantasy world, not set or based on our historical timeline. You can play as characters from three different factions, namely the Iron Legion which are knights, the Chosen who are samurai warriors, or the Norse vikings known as the Warborn. What I really found awesome was that each of these factions speak their native langue, it's a subtle little extra which makes things almost more authentic. Within each of the faction contains a range of highly skilled, deadly warriors separated into four distinct classes. Choose to kill your enemies with the stealthy Assassins, resist attacks and hit hard with the powerful Heavies, balance offense and defense with the well-rounded Vanguards, or customize your play style with the Hybrids, each a mix of two of the other classes. There is loads of versatility in this game as well as lots of things to customize.
Our story begins when a natural catastrophe forces the most fearsome warriors of the time against one another in a fight for resources and territory.
The mysterious warlord Apollyon, also known in Greek as Abaddon the destroyer, who believes the people of the Knights, Vikings, and Samurai have grown weak and wants to create all-out continuous war. The characters within each of the three faction are all being manipulated by Apollyon to wage war against each other, and to keep a continuous conflict going between the Legion, the Warborn, and the Chosen from the Myre. Apollyon first takes control of the knights of the Blackstone Legion by murdering all their rivals, whereby allowing them to go unchallenged as they start a perpetual war. During the Blackstone Legion's attempt to bring the dishonorable Hervis Daubeny to justice, his second-in-command helps to stop the siege and battles the champion of the Blackstone knights. Upon defeating the Blackstone Legion champion, Ademar is made a knight of the Legion by Apollyon's lieutenant and then serves in her army to protect the people. But as time passes, Ademar comes to the realization that Apollyon cares nothing about protecting people, her thirst for blood and war has consumed her and her only drive is a endless war.
After Apollyon has dealt with the Blackstone knights, she moves on the Vikings by attacking their settlements and strongholds and finally killing the legendary Viking Jarl. When finally powerful warrior known as the Raider comes down from the mountains, and begins uniting the warriors of the various clans under the Warborn banner to make a stand against Apollyon. The Vikings end up being manipulated into drawing the Samurai of the Dawn Empire into this war, which is when all out chaos ensues.
"All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me... You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you." - Walt Disney
For Honor is a melee combat driven game build on a complex fighting system, dubbed “The Art of Battle” by the developers at Ubisoft.
They named it so for a reason, and at time the game play comes off more like a fighting game similar to the style of Mortal Kombat crossed with the technical aspects of the FromSoftware games. This is not a hack and slash game even though it very much looks like it from the trailer, and is actually a very strategically complex fighting game in my humble opinion. To used a better analogy, you could say it's like the flight simulator of fighting games, none of that just running into battle mindlessly swinging your sword hoping everything dies. There is a very complex web of dodges, parries, counters, light and heavy attacks, combo chains, environmental kills, and of course, grisly but epic executions.
The single-player campaign is divided across three chapters, one for each of the factions and having a total six missions each. I probably spent close to ten hours getting through the campaign mission and it felt just long enough to get well acquainted with all the mechanics and to prepare you for the real battle. As much as I like the single player mode, the heart and soul of this game lies in the multiplayer. You will probably end up spending quiet a bit of time in here are earning coin for gear is a very slow process, and this is where Ubisoft sneaks in their micro transactions system in hopes of you parting with your well earned money for virtual stuff. All in all it's a fun game to play, and the more you play it, the more you want to play it.
For Honor is an action adventure video game developed and published by good and well known folks at Ubisoft Montreal.
Obviously they need no introduction, but who knows, this might be your first time reading this blog or first look deeper into the world of gaming. Ubisoft are the people behind games like the Assassin's Creed series, the Far Cry series, which I recently reviewed right here, and Watch Dogs 1 and 2, all of which have been epic games. For Honor was announced in 2015 at E3, but was only officially released in February 2017. It's available on all the usual suspects, namely Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you happen to be on PlayStation, be sure to check out the twelve deals of Christmas on the PlayStation Store, and For Honor is on sale for more than half the standard retail price. If you are really smart and thrifty, go pop into your local game store and see if you can find this pre-played for even less.
I give For Honor a rating of 6.5/10

Just the word that came to mind was Versatile. Although the argument is ultra used, the struggle for survival in a post-apocalyptic world, the fact that you can select groups gives you a number of game possibilities, over and over again, and this perhaps makes it very interesting and addictive, as you well mention. Equally interesting is the fact that it is a melee game, similar to Mortal Kombat. Another thing: Thank you for explaining who Ubisoft was because I had no idea who they were and for those Walt Disney quotes. Really inspiring, @MorkRock. Greetings
Great article @morkrock. Ubisoft doesn't ever seem to disappoint if am not lying, all games of theirs always seems to be on point. Ranging from assassins creed as you mentioned down to the least. This is a game not to miss, a game to try out and experience combat at its best.
Very interesting the description of For Honor.
The video strategy games contextualized at different times are great. There are almost always bloody battles with spectacular images; the play of light and shadow with details in the backgrounds is very attractive in For Honor. But the most interesting thing is to overcome each level, without receiving damage, in a dizzying battle. The rapid recovery of each contender is the ultimate and customization of the players is the real strategy.
Merry Christmas @MorkRock
Merry Christmas @adsactly
The fact that this video game combines very dissimilar cultural and historical realities (medieval knights, samurai and Vikings) makes it particularly appealing and emotional. It also attracts that timeless character or beyond a fixed referential time (the medieval with the post-apocalyptic). In the trailer I could see that there is an excellent environmental or scenographic work, not to mention the design of the characters. The effects obtained with the actions of battles so strong, quite violent, will assure you, without a doubt, many players. Thanks for the information, @MorkRock, always so pleasant and complete, and also @adsactly.

The big turn off for me on this one is that online only game play, not cool...
