An educated person

in #writing5 years ago

I know many of us while talking about an educated person our attention is always shilfted to a learner who learn or acquire everything in the four walls of the classroom. Though, the statement might not be far from the truth but it is not adequate, it is just a conjecture. imageimage
Is learning limited to the four way of the classroom alone? the answer is Absolutely No. Learning starts from when a child is born, we are all empty when we come to this world, but we started learning everything base on our community, people will have around, what we see and the research work of those that have once lived before us and the experience of other around us together with our own experiences relating with others in the society. The only thing that can be gotten from the four wall of the classroom is knowledge which is not adequate without wisdom. And I believe wisdom is far more better than knowledge on the long run as the former had enormous advantages over the latter. I can say school is messed up; we were made to know what they want us to know and not what we decided to know by ourselves. Though, I kids they say could not decide for themselves because they know nothing, but not when someone is teen when he or she can do more things on his or her own. The formal education limit a kids to some curriculum which has been in place over a century ago that may not have a correlation with what is happening around us now.

This happened often in Africa nation, I know of my country, Nigeria, no idea is allowed at all, once you didn't write exactly what is given to you by your teacher prior to examination then, one is bound to fail, here I'm not about unless point made by the students who aren't serious with studies, but the fact that, idea is not always welcome which is bad and is limiting pupils. That's why the level of one's education doesn't necessitate one's success in life. Many are drop out of school but today they made it because they were determined.

I so much like Mr Lee kuan yew perception on an educated person which I really supported leaving no doubt. He says an educated person is a man who never stop learning and wants to learn more. He further stressed his point saying, I'm no interested whether a man has a PhD or not, MA for that matter or even diploma, Mao never had one, neither had Khrushchev. imageimage

I got to realised that all what I know doesn't come to me through rational process but what, through intuition. Many of the things I know was learnt outside the four walls of the classroom. School limits one, it never give one room to think for oneself. There is nothing one cannot learn on his own once one is determined.

Enough of all the abstract talk in school. Though, schools is not particularly bad like that but it should be of students oriented rather then teacher based. Not what they want the child to know but he takes delight in knowing. Questions should be welcomed at all times. And a student should be made to relate what has been learned in the four wall of the classroom to the real world. Many things we learn in the school, it is a pity that not many of them could be applied in the real life.

Imagine a situation whereby an engineering student who spent years in school could even fixed a bicycle chain more-or-less improvised or invent a new things. Maybe this is only happening in Africa nation.

Thomas Edison once said, 'when I want to discover something I began by reading up everything that has been done along that line in the past.

The only thing I believe school gives which is more important and imperative to me is how to read and write, any other thing is not totally useless though.

We should stop walking with instinct alone but rather how we use our intellect in processing ideas. What distinct us from goose, baboon and other animals is the ability for us to use our mind. We can go north, east, west and south. We can do many things but we are limiting ourselves because we only walk with instinct perniciously we, Africans.

The only favour will can do ourself is to invest on our mind and not just physical body. Instead of painting our body why can't we 'paint' and 'colour' our mind.

Acquire to aspire what you desire when you perspire don't retire but continue to refire.
