The Nano Red Goes First

in #youtube5 years ago

I put an extremely informal pole out on Twitter seeking advice about something. I have a new idea about a YouTube channel that I am pretty excited about. I was of two minds on whether to start a brand new channel, or rebrand an existing one. The popular advice was to rebrand, rather than start from scratch, and I must say I kind of agree.

I spent a good portion of this evening on the channel, getting it ready for the rebrand. I have hidden over half of the videos, and refreshed the thumbnails the the remaining ones. The aim is to create a uniform look across the channel. I even changed the channel art. Even though I think I will be tweaking it a bit further, I think the channel is ready to receive it's first new video.

My first ever Apple product and the gateway drug to the Apple ecosystem

I remember the day I purchased this item like it was yesterday. I also remember the amount of research that went into it - should I get the larger iPod, or the older one? What colour should I get? I took the plunge and got this one for many reasons, all of which I will be discussing in the video.

So everyone in the Apple Ecosystem has their gateway drug. For some people it was the original iPod. For some it was the Macintosh computer. For me, it was the 2nd Generation iPod Nano. I bought the rare (PRODUCT)RED edition, which meant a percentage of the money went to fight AIDS.

This little champ has been out of action since I got my first iPhone many years ago, but since it was so well made, it still looks and works like new - with the exception of minor scratches.

My Nano is going to be the star of the show when the new (old) channel kicks off. I'm looking forward to making the video, and I will no doubt be sharing it on here :)

So what's the new channel about?

You mean the rebranded old channel?. Well, it's going to be all about a journey of getting back to the things I did when I was a child. I actually made a video a while back about "happiness" and how recapturing your childhood things may be the path to it.

A huge portion of the content will be based on me learning to draw again. I have decided to get back to the art I was deeply into when I was a lad, and harnessing the happiness that came with it. So, expect to see videos of me drawing a lot, but also videos about art gear - both analogue and digital.

As the channel (hopefully) grows, I will probably phase out some of the older non-drawing videos, and may even change the channel name to reflect the new content. For now though, I'm leaving it as is. I don't want to chase my 300+ subscribers away immediately :)

Besides, I need to get to one thousand subscribers ASAP so I can get some of that Google money!

It's not easy to start a channel on youtube and build it into a popular channel, some people succeed, some people fail.I think it takes a lot of updating and a lot of persistence, and a lot of people do youtube channels and get very little view counts and very little subscription.

I agree. The way I'm approaching it is that I'm doing what I enjoy first and foremost, but I'm going to leverage my existing followers to get qualified for monetisation so I can get some pennies to buy some stuff I need for the videos.
