@ULOGS #01: HOW I SPENT MY DAY, THANKS TO @SURPASSINGGOOGLE FOR GIVING US @ULOGS

in #ulogs6 years ago

Good day my fellow STEEMIAN, it's me @aderonke01. This is my first post on ulogs and I want to tell you about how I spend my day. As I wake up today u know what going to be happening first, going to masjid for morning prayer, after prayer, back to my hostel to prepare for school in short doing the necessary thing before I leave my hostel. Immediately I enter the school, am going for lecture and our lecturer talk about Budding in class and take us to the farm to show us the example of budding.
This is how the lecture going.

What is budding? Budding is a form of grafting in which a single bud is used as the scion rather than a section of stem, It is a method of graftingin which the scion (upper portion of the graft) is a single bud rather than a piece of stem or twig. It is the most Commonly used method for fruit tree production in the nursery, but can also be used for for working plum, cherry, apricots, and peach as well as young apple and pear trees. (Cherry, plum, apricot, and peach are not easily cleft grafted or whip grafted).

Why propagate by budding? Budding is faster than any other grafting technique. Even for the beginner, the percentage of successful union is usually greater than with other forms of grafting. Budding is also well adapted to plant shoots from 0.6 to 2.5cm in diameter, In larger branches, buds may be inserted in vigorously growing twigs near the upper part of the plant. Besides ease and success, a stronger union is formed than those made with other grafting techniques, Because only a single bud is inserted, you can produce a number of new plants even when scion wood of a new variety is scarce.

When is the time to bud ? "T" budding can be done almost any time that the bark of the stock slips (easily separates from the wood) and buds are fully developed. Most budding is done from July 15 to August 15. Buds set at this time normally remain dormant. In cold climates, bud growth in fall is undesirable because young shoots are subject to winter injury, Spring budding (in May) is possible, but is less desirable than fall budding. Budding Technique

What are bud sticks? The bud stick is a twig ranging in size from a lead pencil up 1.25cm diameter, usually from the current season’s growth. It should have average vigor, be healthy, and have plump, well developed buds, as indicated by a slightly brownish color. Buds on the center of the twig are generally better than those near the tip or the base (where the twig may have branched from another limb). As soon as you cut the bottom from the tree or shrub, clip off the leaves: allow about 1.25cm of the leafstallr to remain as a handle. Use bud sticks as soon as taken from the tree, but if necessary, they maybe stored in cool, moist conditions.
