Steem Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek 9 Review

in #steem6 years ago

Gameweek 10 is almost here and for sure it can’t be as bad as Gameweek 9, right? FPL managers have had a week to think about what do with our teams to get a steady score from the upcoming gameweek. Champions League and Europa League matches have given us the chance to have look at players from the “big six” teams.

In the match between Liverpool and FK Crvena zvezda several Liverpool players impressed. For example Mo Salah (12.8m) scored two goals, including one from the spot. This makes his owners feeling even more confident of a big score at home to Cardiff this weekend. Non-owners like me will now be looking at ways to get him in their teams. I’m quite settled on buying him and putting the captain armband on him. Could there be hat-trick coming on Saturday? Liverpool managed yet again and clean sheet and the question is not if you should have a Liverpool defender in your team, the question is how many and who/whom? The strongest and best option (also the most expensive) seems to be Robertson (6.3m). Robertson got an assist in Liverpools’ 4-0 win and was outstanding throughout the game.

Tottenhams’ chances of qualifying for the knock-out rounds of the Champions League aren’t good after a 2-2 draw with PSV. Spurs have now 1 point from three matches and now have to win all or at least two of their remaining group stage matches. For FPL managers there was at least a positive performance from Christian Eriksen (9.2m) who got an assist for Harry Kanes’ (12.8m) goal and “assisted the assister” for the other. Eriksen played in the “number ten” role and looked okey. He now seems to be fit and ready to start against Manchester City on Monday. Trippier (6.3m) had once again a strong performance assisting Spurs first goal and he really seems capable of delivering attacking returns in every game in which he features. For a Spurs defender though,Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures arenẗ the best with Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal in three of their next six Gameweeks.

In Manchester Citys’ 3-0 away win against Shaktar Donetsk goalscorers were David Silva (8.5m), Aymeric Laporte (£5.8m) and Bernardo Silva (£7.6m). Aguero (11.4m) was an unused substitute which should mean he will be in the starting eleven against Spurs. Kevin De Bruyne (9.7m) who got 69 minutes in his second game after his injury wasn’t at his best if reports are to trust but will for sure be closely scouted by many FPL managers in the upcoming weeks.

Manchester United had a difficult match against Juventus at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening losing 0-1. Juventus dominated the game and David de Gea (5.8m) had to make a handful of saves to keep his side in the game. Maybe the best Man Utd player on the pitch was Victor Lindelof (4.8m) who perhaps had one of his best displays in a Man Utd shirt. Offensively they had hoped for goals from the Belgium striker but Lukaku (10.9m) once again putted in a disappointing display. Lukaku is now without a goal in PL since Gameweek 5 and is on an eight-match drought in all club competitions.

Arsenal and Chelsea both won their matches in Europa league against Sporting CP (0-1) and Bate Borisov (3-1) respectively. Both teams rotated their squads quite heavily and therefore we should expect similar starting lineups as in gameweek 9. Welbeck (6.5m) and Loftus-Cheek (5.2m) both thanked their managers for getting playing time by scoring goals. Loftus-Cheek scored three goals, his first ever senior hat-trick and is starting to ask questions about more playing time also in PL. So far he has been behind both Kovacic (5.9m) and Barkley (5.7m) in the pecking order for the third midfield spot in the team but performances like this should strengthen his position in the team and give him more chances also in PL.

Top three transfers in and out before gameweek 10:

IN:
Aubameyang (10.8m) (159 000+ transfers in)
Martial (7.3m) (144 000+)
Salah (12.8m) (143 000+)

OUT:

Mane (9.7m) (175 000+ transfers out)
Kane (12.5m) (165 000+)
Moura (7.3m) (151 000+)

Match previews:

Liverpool-Cardiff
This could be a really one-sided match, but who knows. Cardiff will be full of confidence after their result last weekend and will try to build on their win against Fulham while Liverpool are aiming to extend their unbeaten start to the season to 10 matches. In the last match against Fulham (4-2) Cardiff scored as many goals as they did in their previous eight PL matches this season. On Saturday Cardiff will have to score, if not 4, at least a couple of goals if they want to win. In the last ten meetings between the two clubs there have been at least three goals scored in each match. So even is Allisson is aiming to become the second Liverpool goalkeeper in PL history to keep seven clean sheets in his first 10 starts for the club after Jose Reina he can’t take a clean sheet for granted.

In liverpool Jordan Henderson (5.3m) is expected to remain out with a hamstring injury, but Naby Keita (7.2m) could potentially be back for contention. In defence Robertson (6.3m) and Van Dijk (5.9m) have nailed down their spots but only Klopp knows which two of the trio Alexander-Arnold (5.1m), Gomez (5.1m) and Lovren (4.9m) are set to start.

Warnock is unlikely to make many changes to his winning side if all are fit to play. They have doubts over Josh Murphy (4.8) and Harry Arter (4.9m) (both knocks) while Joe Ralls (4.8m) is the only ”first eleven” player that is out for sure. He continues to serve a suspension for the red card picked up against Spurs in gw 8.

Possible starting lineups :
Liverpool:Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Milner, Wijnaldum, Shaqiri; Mane, Firmino, Salah

Cardiff: Etheridge; Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett; Camarasa, Gunnarsson, Arter; Murphy, Reid, Paterson

Tottenham- Manchester City

Tottenham are targeting a fifth successive Premier League victory as they host unbeaten leaders Manchester City. Tottenham are on fifth place in the league with 21 points, only two points behind leaders Man City.

Spurs have lost only two of their last 21 PL matches at Wembley but one of those defeats came against Man City in April and they will once again have a hard time winning against Peps’ team. Pep has only lost two of his last 13 meetings with Mauricio Pochettino and in addition to that Man City are unbeaten in six PL away matches in London and have won the last four in a row. If winning this they could become the first non-London side to win five consecutive PL matches in the capital. Manchester City have also won 10 of their last 15 matches against Spurs but a Monday night game could help Spurs better this statistic. Spurs seems to like playing on Mondays because out of their last nine Premier League games played on Monday they have won seven and lost none.

Tottenham will be missing Jan Vertonghen (5.9m) with a thigh injury but Danny Rose (5.9m) and Dele Alli (8.9) could return.

Guardiola will be without Ilkay Gundogan (5.5m) and Claudio Bravo (4.9m) for the trip to Wembley but Kevin De Bruyne (9.7m) could finally be ready to make his first Premier League start of the season.

Possible starting lineups:
Tottenham:Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Dier, Dembele; Son, Eriksen, Lamela; Kane

Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy; D.Silva, Fernandinho, De Bruyne; Sterling, Aguero, Sane

Steem-pick

I just feel I have to pick one offensive Bournemouth player because they play Fulham at home. No team has ever conceded as many goals as Fulham (25) in the first nine games of a Premier League season and they may be the worst team, defensively, that have played in Premier League, ever. I was thinking about Callum Wilson (6.5m) but then I looked att stats and noticed that his attacking colleague Joshua King (6.4m) has had more penalty box touches and more shots in the last four gameweeks. King is also on penalties. King is a small injury doubt for the game but according to his managers he should be OK to play. King is also more of a punt with his low ownership (5.1%). My gameweek 10 steem pick is Joshua King (6.4m).

I'm skeptical about Trippier. I suspect he could be rotated with Aurier and even if he doesn't get rotated, what if City wipe the floor with the Spuds. So many things to think about

My biggest gain this week was Bournemouth's Ryan Fraser. Gave him the captain's armband and got a whooping 22 points.
